What a trip for me. Pages of self congratulatory and self-stroking Mormon goodness. A bit dated but is it still relevant today in Rusty's Mormonism?

STP is not limited to Mormons. Spend time in any organization and it will become clear who they are. No one steps in until one of them moves or dies. Then the remaining 9 hold “try outs” for who will replace them.

Just don’t expect help or respect if you are one of them and need help. No one will step up.

This idea is clearly molded during the YM-YW era of church socialization. I was forever minted as the secretary. The chosen ones were called to lead during my deacon and teacher years in the church. I think part of it dealt with my reluctance to attend seminary and my parents resented that messy wasn't called as a counselor until I was ordained as a priest. By those later years, the quorum shrunk to the point that I was one of 4-5 that regularly showed up on Sundays.

I always had some church job, usually a teacher in Sunday School or sometimes a clerk. Never crossed my mind that I could actually tell the bishop no and not accept the calling.

When I got to be the finance clerk, leading up to the end of my church days, I heard some things, sometimes directly, sometimes snooping, about people who turned the bishop down for a calling. I just never thought of that, not from any dedication but I just had no clue that people did that.

Can you dish some of this dirt? Wonder what caused the stir in their sacrament with these people?

Just like my super faithFOOL MORmON family, where it is sin to get caught blatantly aspiring to higher callings as well as blasphemy to turn down any extended calling from a leader

and those people have most likely tainted themselves with the STP controling insiders for decades ......or forever

So at the ward level it is The Same Ten People but at the COB it is The Same Fifteen People. It has been awhile since one of the 15 fell from his "calling."

I was always the ward clerk.

2 reasons:

1. A ward, a stake or the Church can not tolerate an unreliable ward clerk. How many of you didn't feel like doing your calling for a week? Were you ever called from Salt Lake about it? If a snow storm prevented the ward from meeting, I would be called by somebody at headquarters wanting to know when the tithing would be deposited.

2. I was one of the few literate people in a ward. A bishop would hand me envelopes from Salt Lake: "Tell me what they want me to do."

In summary, I was too valuable to waste in a "leadership position." A calling as ward clerk allows somebody who isn't committed to every Church doctrine or teaching to be present witnessing without having to lie openly about his unbelief.

I guess Ward Clerks are a part of the STP? Keeps the GAs cleaning up.

I see this on fast sunday. The same people in almost the same order of appearance get up and whine with tears through the same dialogue time after time after time. Now I have no problem with a sincere expression of feelings but tears for showoff don't cut it in my book.

I can see that. What drove me crazy was how ritualistic it was for some people and probably cathartic. And I always wondered why those same people needed to do this month after month. What was it about them?
