Ugh! Tried listening to it but couldn't get past the first few minutes. It's just so annoying and cult like. A great reminder of how happy I am to not be a Mormon.

Never having been Mormon, I had not until now comprehended that this truly is a Spy Network!

Not only does the assigned LDS person (the "minister") go to visit/email/call/pray for the "victim," but then the assigned LDS person (the "minister") reports any gleaned information to the higher-ups....not just when there is some bigger need that the assigned minister cannot provide. So, in every single case there is an inquisition...?

That's repulsive. Intrusive. Unnecessary.
Why doesn't everyone, every single person, flee this Spy Network that is LDS?

Such a cult. Even if they ditched the garments tomorrow, I'd still say "cult" after hearing all this!

I'm a professional artist and art teacher. How is asking a single mother, whose time and money is probably already stretched thin, to teach an art class (atelier) for FREE defined as ministering to her? The syrupy sweet suggestion (that was very well received) that this single mother should do something "for the ward" is the exploitation of a vulnerable individual for the benefit of a corporation that is already sucking their membership (food source) dry. This is despicable. If you want her to teach an art class (to people who probably don't even want to take an art class but would feel obligated to attend) and you really want to minister, OFFER TO PAY HER!!

You see Mormons love being used. They just can't wait to drop everything and throw their time and money into the church. This ward that they said she has no real connection with, is exactly where she wants to be. She just doesn't know it yet. The more they make her work and the more money they get her to spend, the happier she will be.

I couldn't listen to more than a few minutes of the fake, syrupy overly sweet Mr. Roger's voice (no offense to Mr. Rogers - he was genuine). The "ministering" practice seems to focus on keeping members in, by any means. It's not about loving and caring but retaining members. It's also a gossip fest to talk about struggling members behind their backs. I wonder if the people being ministered to understand that everything they confide to the ministers will be reported and discussed in a meeting. Creepy.

The whole "ministering" practice is so manipulative. Why is it necessary for the "ministers" to pray for guidance as to how to help individuals. Isn't it obvious when asking probing questions, and just by listening, what is needed? They've been taught that they can't do anything without praying about it. This way, when they come up with an idea of how to lure people back to church - like the artist teaching a class to church members - they have to give credit to the spirit. Keeps them codependent and makes for a good story to share in testimony meeting abut how the spirit guided them. Self-manufactured spiritual feelings. It's all a mind game.

to return to heavenly father to get eternal life. Ministering is led by the spirit. Keep it simple.

Quarterly interviews at 5:15 min into the video. How are the family members are getting along individually,temporally and spiritually? What are their challenges? How are those challenges being met? And how can we help? Are there efforts and long range plants to move them towards the lord? Those interviews are crucial for the bishop.

Sadly I know a few members who when they lost their job talked to the bishop about financial support and they got denied although they had paid full tithing for decades. The "fire insurance" did not work for them.

Glad to be out and glad to have nobody ministering to me.

I felt like they were very condescending.

Are they all back in junior high school? They want to flatter the girl, and pander to her love of art. These "ministers" don't care about art. They just want to successfully manipulate the girl.

People with average intelligence are not going to be fooled by the condescending tone. My new ward found out I had my teaching certificate and some teaching experience, so they jumped all over me to teach in Sunday school. One month prior, I had been divorced (and totally abandoned to raise my children alone), and I told the bishop I was too busy trying to find a PAYING teaching job, to support my children. Having such a heavy, scary responsibility to my kids helped me be more assertive with "users."

Mormonism is perpetual junior high school. You practically need a permission slip to use the bathroom. Cliques, gossip, they have it all and they all stay in that juvenile stage of emotional development. That’s Mormon Normal. Your mileage may vary.

A radical question: why did none of the three speakers mention their OWN ministering experiences instead of commenting/analyzing some made up videos produced by the training department?

Oh...possibly because they have none...?

Not the first time of "do what I say, not what I do" in Mormondom.

Reminded me of job training exercises at work.

Watched the first example of ministering by RS sisters. Funny how ministering involved what the member could do for the ward and nothing at all the ward could do for the member other than know more info about her. Basically, if you are helping the ward you should expect that to be your blessing. Yeah. Right.

It seems like TSCC is simply using new, evangelical terms to replace Mormon terms and make the old philosophy sound like a new philosophy without changing a thing.

I remember so many times in TSCC when the person's new ward discovered a talent the member had or their career skills and suddenly it was turned into a calling. And many of those members tried to hide their talent or job skills because they knew something they liked doing or did for a living would soon become a ward chore. They knew they'd be doing it for the next twenty years at church. And, of course, turning down a calling is forbidden because it means you are dissing God.

An older sister in my former ward cleaned homes for a living and stopped doing it as she got older. Guess what. Now she is the ward cleaning specialist. Inspired leadership my eye.
