I attended an event recently where Troy was one of the speakers. He shared that he had several health issues. He was not married. He was such a nice young man & radiated compassion as he spoke to us. May he rest in peace.

I didn't know that Troy was married - that must have been recent. My heart goes out to his family. I lost a niece (who was like a daughter to me) and I can say the pain from her death never has diminished. It will soon be 6 years since she left us.

It was "MyLife" profile that listed him as married at the time it was written.

"Summary
Troy Osmond is 33 years old and was born on 11/26/1984. Currently, he lives in Saint George, UT; and previously lived in Ephraim, UT. Sometimes Troy goes by various nicknames including Troy D Osmond and Troy Dean Osmond. Troy is now married. Other family members and associates include Sheila Frischknecht and Merrill Osmond."

I am thinking the "now married" was a typo and was meant to be "not married". Also, someone in the family - either one of his sisters or a cousin - posted that he died in his sleep of natural causes. There is indeed a lot of vascular and heart disease in their family.

Oh, that makes sense. It was a strange thing to throw into a sentence. "Now married?" What does that mean? He's just gotten married? He wasn't married before, but now he is? But that's true of everyone who gets married.

It sure caused a lot of confusion.

He has had issues with substance abuse in the past. Had some run ins with the law issues because of that, too, so a relapse is certainly possible.

I wouldn't base anything on a "My Life" profile. Years ago, we discovered that my husband's ex wife had posted a profile for herself using the name of her second daughter with my husband.

What a mind f*^k for him. To be an Osmond, in their 30's, not married, with married siblings and their children.

I hope that he RIP and that his life was one that he enjoyed living.

Very sad news that Troy Osmond has died.

Merrill announced it today and he has said he will continue with his Uk tour that he is currently on. No clue as to cause of death, I really hope it isn't anything similar to Marie's son, Michael.

A lot of fans think the same as you as to what's happened.

Merrill considered suicide while going through male menopause, some years back. I hope young Troy didn't either.

"Merrill – lead singer and bassist for The Osmonds band in the ’70s – hit rock bottom while going through male menopause and even considered suicide.

But he’s bounced back, thanks to Marie’s support and a unique hormone replacement therapy."

Wish there was an obituary that listed a cause of death so that people wouldn't speculate so much.

It's possible that a cause of death is still pending. There is heart disease in the Osmond family and Jimmy had a stroke in his 30s? 40s? due to a heart defect, that is also a genetic trait like deafness is (hole in the heart) in the family. He mentioned other members of his family also have had this same defect.

He is honoring his commitment to play these shows. Had he decided to cancel, the entire crew would have lost their jobs, the venues would lose money, and the fans would have been disappointed, some of whom had likely already paid for travel expenses and lodging. He did say in his statement that he wanted people to understand that he might not be as available as normal, when offstage. I find this highly commendable, and speaks to his integrity and professionalism.

Options: ReplyQuote

It's possible that those negatively affected by Merrill's decision to leave the show would have understood and forgiven him. Even if it was only for a couple of shows...

But now there is the possibility that many people will wonder if Merrill thought his wayward son just wasn't worth the bother. It happens!

Either way, I'm not judging, I'm not assigning a letter grade to this unenviable situation and outcome. And I certainly don't doubt that Merrill wishes he could see his son again.

I don't think it means that he isn't going home for whatever services that they will have. The Christmas tour doesn't start til this coming Thru., plenty of time for him to go back to UT and bury his son and mourn with his family.

I believe Troy was living with his parents at this time. His parents were very close to him. Even though the event I attended was only a long weekend. His parents & him were all on vacation together for about 2 weeks at the resort where the event took place. Merrill spoke very proudly about his son. He & Mary were supportive of Troy as he shared very personal things. We all fell in love with Troy giving him hugs & taking photos with him. Sad his life got cut so short! :(

Are you for real ?? Fans would loose money, be dissapointed etc. His son has died, money isnt important in situations like this. I would stand to loose hundreds of £'s which I cant afford to do, but given the circumstances it would be very understandable.I for one feel the tour should be cancelled. They have cancelled the christmas party out of respect to Troy but the next night they start the tour. Sorry but I find that unbelievable.

Most people I know take 3 or 4 days off from work when a close family member dies, and then go back. Bills need to be paid, and there might be people who are depending on you. Personally, I found work to be a positive distraction after my mother's death.

I can.

Marie went back on stage very soon after her son died. It's how she chose to move forward as best she could.

The entire family continued with the Oprah interview when their father died, and Marie continued with DWTS.

Many people, not just entertainers, continue to move forward. Athletes, members of the military, etc.

It's not an uncommon response to the death of a loved one.

People grieve differently. I personally could not imagine myself doing a tour so quickly but I'm not him. I wouldn't want to leave Mary, though....not at a time like this!

Yes, people do grieve differently. What works for one person, doesn't work for another.

Some need work to move forward and not get stuck in a rut.

It's at times like this that the Mormon teaching of "sealed" is very comforting to them. Dollars to donuts, it is for Merrill, his wife and the rest of his family.

From The Osmond brother facebook

"We are all feeling tremendously sad over the passing of Troy and have now decided to re schedule the Christmas party to February 20th 2019. If you have tickets and paid for photos for this event they will be transferred to the new date. We hope you understand this decision and will join us for a Valentine party instead. The venue and times remain the same. Our Christmas tour will start on 16th at Blackpool and we look forward to seeing you there."

This young man, was not living the "Mormon lifestyle" I found a mug shot and record for him from 2015. It was for 4 accounts of breaking and entering, 5 accounts of stealing and 5 accounts of drug charges. these were all in Ephram Utah. I cant get it to post on here, but a google search of his full name will bring this up.
Still a very sad event for his family.

The drug charges were for controlled substances. In this day, can't help but think opiod addiction. If that is the case, that would explain the stealing etc (ie need drug money).

I have lost family to this awful addiction. If he struggled with it, and if it played into his passing, all the more the family has my compassion.

Really - must we bring his "record" up right now? Please leave it alone and remember the wonderful person that he was.

Yes he was suffering from great pain due to illnesses. Enough said about that for now. Let's not turn this into "What the Osmonds have done wrong" thread.

Shelley,
Not sure if you are new to this forum, but one is going to get all kinds of responses on exmormon.org.

It's the nature of recovery, and that includes the high profile members of Mormonism.

I have found this thread very compassionate and supportive. Not even close to what you suggest.

Like I said for me personally, I have had a family member in this awful opiod epidemic. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's brutal

I and others can't help but think his addiction played a part in his death. Yes I really feel for the family and for Troy who seems have been such a lost soul. I also have compassion for the people he stole from and whose houses he burgaled. Drug addiction or not he was 30 when charged so old enough to know it was wrong.
