Kyrsten Sinema, raised in a Mormon family and a BYU graduate, was just declared the winner in the race to replace current Mormon Jeff Flake in the US Senate. She becomes Arizona's first female senator and the first Democrat elected from Arizona in many years.

I hope she mentions RfM in her first speech in front of the Senate.

This is good.

1. It's a slap in the face to Ballard and his "Where will you go?" drivel. "I'm going to the U.S. Senate!"

2. It's a rebuke to all the TBMs who think that a person's life will go to pieces upon leaving TSCC.

3. There are plenty of hardass mormons in AZ who will be crying in their Big Gulps about an exmo Dem in in DC.

She is very interesting and hard working.

People will see a public person who outgrew Mormonism. I hope she has a successful future in her new role.

The current Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Arden, is also a female exMo. LDS Inc is losing their best and brightest. Serves 'em right!

You are correct! Thanks for posting this. I saw her on one of the Late Night shows and she seems very approachable and real. Has everyone call her by her first name.

Raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), Ardern left the church in 2005 because, she said, it conflicted with her personal views; in particular her support for gay rights.[104] In January 2017, Ardern identified as "agnostic".[104]

I’m a long time fan of Kyrsten Sinema. I think her political stances, as expressed since she was in college, are what America needed and still needs today; not despite, but specifically because, they are largely considered marginal and/or extreme.

The interesting question is, can she maintain those stances while sitting in the 100 Club?

Born and raised Mormon and then leaving the church after graduating from BYU is evidence of someone who not only knows how to think for herself but also is strong enough to act out what she thinks.

We know what it’s like to be shunned and even vilified for thinking differently from our families, friends, neighbours and communities. And many of us know the satisfaction of maintaining our integrity throughout the ordeal. The strength that comes from living that kind of ordeal will come in handy while Kyrsten Sinema faces down those who will oppose her.

I’m not betting she’ll hold true to her convictions, at least not 100 percent; but if anyone is constitutionally ‘set-up’ to do so, it is Kyrsten Sinema.

For her sake and America’s, I wish Kyrsten Sinema well.

Hail Kyrsten!

You make Arizona blue.

And while I'm at it hail Jacinda.

Although I was rooting for her opponent, I'll give Sinema a fair chance and wish her success in her new Senate seat. Maybe she'll work with both sides to do what's right for the country. I support some of her positions. I also didn't like all of the ads against her before the election. It's also good to see an exmormon in a high-level government position. If she is ever in a position to legislate issues involving churches and/or religions, she may offer perspectives that the average legislator might not see.
