https://www.sltrib.com/religion/local/2018/12/02/two-days-before-election/

"Two days before November’s election, a large gathering of Latter-day Saints listened as their stake president — also a powerful lobbyist — issued clear-cut guidance about their vote on a Utah ballot initiative for medical cannabis."

“The church does not endorse any political party or candidate. Nor does it advise members how to vote,” the handbook states. “However, in some exceptional instances the church will take a position on specific legislation, particularly when it concludes that moral issues are involved.”

When the institutional church does speak out, it does so only with the support of the governing First Presidency.

“Stake presidents and other local leaders should not organize members to participate in political matters,” the handbook adds, “or attempt to influence how they participate.”

But The Corporation surely stays out of Utah politics. /s

Right. Notice that, although the Stake President is a paid lobbyist for LDS Inc., he was talking as an "unpaid layman". Just like when the Profit fucks up- he was just "speaking as a man".
It's all BS.

Liars.

Mormon "self-appointed authorities" are above the law, even if the laws are their own.

The voting has been done.

Didn't matter.

Two days after the law the people wanted became effective, the Utah legislature in an emergency session modofied the law to meet the needs of a commitie of which the mormon church was a member.

In clear, open defiance of the will of the people, the mormon controlled legislature overturned the will of the people and passed more restrictive legislation. Limiting significantly those that can be helped.

Part of the legislation is a "compassion committee" appointed by the legislature and hencd the mormon church to determine if an adult ager 18 to 20 will be allowed cannabis medication even if it is prescribed by a qualified doctor for a qualified ailment.

I think you may have missed a bit of humor in EB's statement. He was revising CC2's statement that "When the Stake President has spoken, the thinking has been done."

EB's version presumably went something like. . .

"When the Stake President has spoken, the voting has been done."

In other words, he was agreeing with you about the church's abuse of the legislative process.

ChruchCo can't develop beyond the gross elitism that commands all policies, decisions, & actions because the top leaders enjoy the status quo so much.

The SP tried unrighteous dominion. That didn't work, but not to worry. LDS Inc had their ace in the hole. The legislature started a special session late last week and overrode Proposition 2 yesterday.

ETA: correction: the special session started Monday. They just basically walked in and overrode Prop 2. No need for debate or amendments. The thinking had been done.

And really why should LDS Corp care? Oh, yeah, they are an investment business siding with big pharma politics. How could I forget.

They care because they lost control. In order to have passed a significant number of church members would have had to vote for it. The church is lashing back. Showing its power and complete disregard for democracy.
