Growing up in Australia and learning all about the US on TV I was so jealous how everyone had a cooked breakfast and I had a bloody bowl of soggy Corn Flakes.

Dad wore a suit at all times drove a new car the size of a whale, smoked a pipe and read the newspaper while dishing out wisdom at every possible opportunity.

Mum was smiling and waiting for the kids to arrive from school with cookies and milk.

Most of all there was Salt Lake. Land of the Prophets, miracles and everyone so damn happy!!!

And I used to wonder with the Holy Priesthood and all of the Brethren why there would be a great need for doctors and hospitals.

I imagined that someone with brain cancer and about to be operated on would get a blessing and then the operation would be cancelled.

'Ok cancel the operation this ones had a blessing and no longer needs us. Nothing to see here, move on'

So then I thought that all of the world would statistically see that in Utah miracle cures were simply the norm.

Now this is true...…. Isn't it???:)

Utah is a unique place I have to say. There are a lot of good people in the State, and lots of history (much of it dark and depressing)

And compared to other places I'd say we're probably better off here. I mean what does Nevada have to offer in the way of culture or enlightenment?... slot machines and busty women. That's all there is in that whole damn state. And how about Idaho? there is the snake river and a bunch of potatoes,... Boring!

Although, based on the long lines of traffic heading to Idaho from SLC on weekends and holidays, I think some of them have figured it out.

Univ of Utah Hospital is one of the finest in the nation for healing. Doctors come there from all over the world for training and to work. It isn't just a Mormon center.

I lived in Canberra for a time. Most Mormons there frequently got annoyed at how all the Mormons portrayed in the church teaching materials were all wealthy residents of Sandy, Utah. They would make jokes about it.

I live in Queensland at a beach city called Hervey Bay.

I've been there. Went on a whale watching excursion.

I envy you.

My cousin is an electrician in nearby Maryborough. Has done a lot of work installing rooftop solar in Hervey Bay. Nice area, though the new jail has changed the demographic somewhat.

I grew up in Southeast Idaho and used to think that way about Utah. I am sorry to say I used to be mentally Utarded (brain atrophy from overexposure to Utah). I was cured of that after spending time in Tooele, Utah.

For those not familiar with North Utah, Tooele is a small town near a nerve gas storage facility for the US Army and possibly the entrance to Hell. You'll understand if you ever meet the people who infest-sorry-live in that area.

Take it from me-- Utah is overrated.

Growing up in SE Idaho myself. Arco was our equivalent I s'pose of Toole since it was close to the INEL, where nuclear waste is/was stored.

I love the national parks of Utah, and the landscapes surrounding southern. I don't miss the winters of SE Idaho or Northern Utah where we'd visit family, growing up. Some of my relatives from there have already made southern Utah their retirement destination. It's like Florida to easterners if you're from Idaho or Utah.

Tooele = Mordor.
