Joseph Smith probably got his "harlot Isabel" character in the BOM from "Jezebel" in the Bible. The names are quite similar. They both were bad women.

But I discovered another clue. Jezebel's father was the king of Sidon. Isabel was leading people to the land of Siron. "Sidon" and "Siron" are identical except for one letter. Having two "coincidences" like this is OVERWHELMING evidence that Joseph Smith used Jezebel to create the Isabel character.

Your standard for overwhelming is underwhelming.

Nevertheless considering the other hijacked stores, this is not out of place in that crime scene.

In Hebrew, "Isabel" and "Jezebel" would be spelled identically.

As a comparison from Christianity (which was an offshoot of Judaism):

Jesus=Yeshu-a [Aramaic, the common, everyday spoken language]=Yeshu [Hebrew].

In ancient Greek, Yeshu-a is related to Joshua (another biblical character)...which leads us back to the Y-to-J linguistic transition.

[I don't know how ancient Latin figures in to the Y-to-J switch, but there are members of this board who probably do know this. In any case, "Isabel" and "Jezebel" would be spelled identically in Hebrew, and Joseph Smith studied ancient Hebrew with a rabbi/teacher, so he would know this.]

Jezebel is a derivation (Aramaic to Hebrew to King James English) of "Iz Baal" or "Yz-Baal." The Iz/Yz means, roughy, "...is present/here/among us" or, in a verb form, an invocation to come and be present. "Baal" is the pagan deity with various forms and spelling variations common to numerous ancient Semitic or Aramaic peoples, and means "Lord" or "Prince."

Jezebel was a daughter of Hyrum, King of the Phonenicians with palaces in Sidon and Tyre, and married Ahab of Samaria (Israel, the Northern Kingdom). She was both politically and religiously aggressive, advancing her state as primary wife and Baal worship to the corruption and displacement of Yahweh worship. She was so evil no other woman in the Old Testament is as fleshed out (pun intended)as Jezebel. Truly a Lady MacBeth.

JS could have had a lot more fun with Isabel if he knew his Bible!

Maybe a Lady McBeth but certainly not a harlot.

Isabella was a queen in Spain.

Note that Jezebel in the OT is never described as sexually generous.
