A little while ago, I had a dream where I went back to one of my old wards. 2 things were different about it. Everybody was casual & instead of an organist on the stand, there was a band; like the Evangelical megachurches.

Does anyone the LDS Inc would ever experiment with this sort of thing?

Doubt it.

The joy in living the gospel is making others miserable.

A primary president once ranted at me; "These children are not here to enjoy themselves, they are here to learn the Gospel!"
That pretty well sums up Sundays in mormondom.

Many years ago the musical number in my ward consisted of a guitar, a mandolin and a violin playing "Deep River". That was a University of Utah student ward. Our members included Sunstone and Dialog contributors and their relatives, three EQPs in a row who had never been missionaries, and the worlds first and last female Sunday School president (her term lasted all of 8 days before the COB found out). Even the bishop was a Sunstoner.

It was also the ward that got disbanded a few years later to scatter the problem people.

I doubt it. The LDS "brand" is to be very controlling and rule-oriented. The church wants to demand as much time and money from members as church authorities think they can get. This may mean that it eventually becomes a smaller church (at least in the developed world,) but I think that is the way it will go.

A guilt-ridden, anxious, fearful population is much easier to control than one confident and at-ease, comfortable with itself.

So, from corporate HQ perspective, contemporary-anything would be counterproductive.

No. It doesn't experiment.

You do. And you move forward.
You eternally experiment.
If you want to continue moving forward. That's the ONLY way.

They (LDSink) don't want LIFE
It prefers chocking it to DEATH

ALL signs point in that direction!
