And accepted on men during sacrament meeting?

Just wondering since LDS Inc has modernized and reformed enough to now allow female missionaries to wear pants.

Hard to wear a tie with a leisure suit, and they rarely came in conservative colors.

Leisure Suit????? What planet are you residing on? I have not seen a leisure suit for sale, except at a thrift store for eons.

Yes, leisure suits will return.

They will only, however, be permissible in the Terrestrial Kingdom, where there will be no point in looking attractive anyway.

LOL

Just maybe Mormon sphincters are loose enough now to allow such progressive clothing for males too!

They already allow them, but just the white one-piece ones that the men wear to baptize people. The same ones are worn in the temple. They are required to be two sizes too small, and fit 4 inches above the ankle.

Only they very high-ranking temple men, such as officiators, the temple president, GA's, and that one guy at the entrance, are allowed to wear regular suits, but only in white. I think the suit-dudes are allowed to wear shoes, and the rest must wear bedroom slippers.

Not a crazy question at all, Gheco.

Sorry--I was thinking of jumpsuits--one piece, for men, with one long zipper up the front. Leisure suits are much nicer than the white temple jumpsuits.

Remember Nehru jackets?

Would love to see a pic of LR in his leisure suit and shoes! I never knew anyone who actually wore one.

My son and his high school friends found some at a used clothing store, and wore them one Halloween. With a turtle neck, or an open neck with gold chains and fake chest hair.

There s a difference between a leisure suit and a jump suit.

The best leisure suits were worn by Don Knotts on “Three’s Company” or “The Ropers”

Remember the fashion rule of thumb:

If you're old enough to have participated in a fashion trend the first time around, you can't participate in the revival.

Options: ReplyQuote
Posted by: olderelder ( )
Date: January 13, 2019 05:07PM

But we can do the world a service by posting photos of ourselves from back in the day in order to shut down the revival.

"Eeeew, I thought it was hip until I saw an old picture of Grandpa wearing it."

When were leisure suits a thing? Were they made of polyester or some other substance not found in nature? Were they mainstream, for old geezers, or what? There are things I am sorry to have missed, but I'm thinking leisure suits may not be one of them.

Mid to late 70's.
Disco era.

I'm certain the polyester was mixed with substances not found in nature...or anywhere else in the universe for that matter!

Oh, yes, they were "mainstream." All the "hip" kids (and celebrities) wore them. Geezers of the time pooh-poohed them.

I had one. Only one. It was baby-blue.
Feel free to ridicule me. :)

edit: it looked a lot like this one:

http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/98/87/a6/9887a6e139c14d259126b78979e9e3c2.jpg

In fact, since that came from Montgomery Ward, it might have *been* that one!

What about the pocket calculator?

I have an HP 32S II that I use almost everyday, I'll never give it up.

Also found my old 6" Picket slide rule, my eyes make it hard to use anymore.

Seriously, I'm a big fan of powerful calculators too. Just pulling Hie's leg, imagining him in a leisure suit with a pocket protector and calculator and (anachronistically) wielding a slide rule like a samurai sword.

Slide rules were obviously long before my time. I'm told they taught certain mathematical relationships exceptionally well. I nerdily wish I'd had that experience.

Pocket calculators were before the leisure suit's time.
I didn't get my first one until well into college.

I still have it, too. A TI with red LED display numbers. It still works. I don't actually use it, though, since I have a full scientific calculator on my phone...:)

Never wore a pocket protector. You have to remember that:

a) leisure suits were "cool." The nerds didn't wear 'em.
b) I was a closet nerd. Totally into math, astronomy, all the nerdy stuff...but kinda kept it hidden (except in math class) to blend in with the jock/cool kids crowd. I will say that being able to help the cute girls in HS with math homework had its advantages...:)

I'm not going to ridicule you. We've all followed questionable fashiom trends. My mom had me wearing a mullet for a few years after she thought I had exceeded the accepable age limit for bowl haircuts. In retrospect I don't think the bowl haircut was a great look, but it beat the mullet by a mile and I wish when seeing the pics that she had left well enough alone.

Too bad we can’t post pics here. My wedding pics from 1976 are classic. The thing I married was wearing a rust-colored, flared-leg leisure suit, platform shoes and had Elvis-style sideburns. For the reception the guys had brown, velvet-trimmed tuxes with yellow ruffled shirts and velvet bow ties. So classic 70s. I keep those pics just cause they make me laugh so hard.

We sort of can -- use a site like imgur (free upload and hosting, and anonymous), then post a link.

Here's a link to a photo of my 1977 high school newspaper staff. I was the photographer. Can you guess which one I am?
Hint: I was the only mormon in the group...

Bingo. My brother was attending the Y at the time.
I was so mormon :(

I hated wearing glasses. Only wore them when I had to in order to see!

He was an outstanding football player. Went on to play for Arizona State, got drafted into the NFL. Ripped a knee in training camp, though, and never played. His brother lives in my small town, and we've kept in touch -- saw him a few months ago. :)

Also back then everybody wore their wedding dress for their wedding (I know, novel idea). And they didn't have little dickies to make it high-necked or tube socks to put over your arms. Your dress had to be that way. So I had to make my own dress.

It could last longer...
But I've things to do.

Cue: coffee, breakfast

Covering up my birthday suit!
Wearing WORK-play clothes...
Maybe a mansuit suite. Sweet.
