The Wasatch Fault is an active fault located primarily on the western edge of the Wasatch Mountains in the U.S. state of Utah. The fault is 240 miles (390 kilometres) long, stretching from southern Idaho, through northern Utah, before terminating in central Utah near the town of Fayette.

The state records hundreds of small earthquakes each year, but more damaging earthquakes happen about every 350-400 years, according to the Utah Geographical Survey. And it has been roughly 350 years since the Wasatch fault's last major earthquake.Apr 18, 2018

Geological history. During the past 6,000 years, a strong earthquake (magnitude greater than 6.5) has occurred approximately once every 350 years somewhere along one of the central segments of the Wasatch Fault. The segments that underlie Salt Lake City and Provo produce a large earthquake on average every 1,300 years.

Is it time ?

Mormons will blame it on porn.

Well, earthquakes are fairly predictable notwithstanding the pure randomness of the actual event.

LOL!!!

In a Northern Exposure episode, there was a rash of car radio thefts going on. Ed decided to create a map to find out if there was a pattern to them.

"I found a definite pattern! Do you see it?"
Joel says "No they look like they're scattered at random"
Ed: "Exactly! its a RANDOM pattern!"

It takes a lot of walking to porn to shake the earth that bad. Oh well, the Mormons claim they have a big porn problem.

Yeah, we felt it. Rattled the dishes. We are at the south end of Salt Lake County. Scary!

It's obviously a sign that we're in the last days.

We felt it and we're towards the south end of the valley. Not ready for the big one; not a 72 hour pack in sight!

Maybe God is preparing to destroy the NSA spy facility, this being the “warning”. Sure would be nice, huh?

That can't be. Think of all the jobs that would be lost.

It would be devastating on the local economy.

Besides, the NSA is probably burrowed so well into the landscape it'll take more than an earthquake to do serious damage to that.

Utah has had one major quake in its settled history, on November 13, 1901. It was centered around Beaver, but the shaking was felt from (N-S) SLC to St. George and (W-E) Panaca NV to Moab. From newspaper accounts, my guess is that it was about a 6.

There was a (slightly) bigger one in 1934 in Hansel Valley - magnitude 6.6 vs. 6.5 for the 1901 quake.

https://quake.utah.edu/regional-info/earthquake-faq

"When were the largest historical earthquakes in Utah?
Since settlement in 1847, Utah’s largest earthquakes were the 1934 Hansel Valley earthquake, north of the Great Salt Lake, magnitude 6.6, and the 1901 earthquake near the town of Richfield, estimated magnitude 6.5."

That might simply have been puberty. Often a whole lot of shaking going on then!

I think there's a plyg version of a mormon temple there. Wonder if the earthquakes damaged it.

The earthquake was two miles from Bluffdale. At 3.3 and 3.8 epicenter, probably not much if any damage to local structures.

One of my children felt an earthquake earlier this week in Japan that made the apartment shake. Otherwise no damage to the building, thankfully. They get them all the time there too.

My brother and his wife live in Bluffdale, in a home that they built in 1980. They've done lots of remodeling and were going to move to St.George after he worked there about a year before he retired, but his wife didn't like the church there, which is the be-all end-all for them

Anyway, I did a text chat with him this AM and he says the felt it really strongly about 5am; they live about a block from the epicenter. He'd been out to look at the exterior since there's lots brick facade but apparently no damage done.

I have some Facebook friend from the avenues here and one of them said his bedroom chandalier swayed for a couple of minutes about that time.

The USGS is saying the epicenter was 2km from Bluffdale.

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/uu60312667/executive

"The United States Geological Survey confirmed a Magnitude 3.2 quake hit first followed by a Magnitude 3.7 just after 5 a.m.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said the quakes are a reminder that Utah is "earthquake country."

"We typically have around eight earthquakes a year that are magnitude 3," a press release states. "We don’t expect that these earthquakes caused much, if any, damage."

David Hurtado appears to be an exception when it comes to damage. He lives in the hills above Lehi and said he and his wife both woke up during the initial quake and really felt the second.

Hurtado said there are several new cracks in his basement floor as well as damage to the exterior of the home. He said the damage comes with a lot of questions for his family.

"Who do I call? Do I have the right insurance, the right coverage? ...We need to figure something out now," he said.

The University of Utah Seismograph Station stated in a press release that more than 7,000 Salt Lake Valley residents felt the foreshock and/or earthquake.

The release states that since 1962, five earthquakes of 3.0-magnitude or higher have occurred within 16 miles of the epicenter of Friday's quake

No injuries have been reported."

No worries. My dad was recently buried out there. He probably heard that his idol, Mr. D. Trump, signed a funding bill without getting his wall money, and dear ol dad was turning over in his grave. He wasn't exactly a small guy. It could easily have made the earth rumble.

What trouble have the Bluffdale Mormons been up to? They received a warning this time, but....next time?

By this coming Sunday many of them will likely be claiming that they only survived the great Bluffdale Quake because they had their food storage.
