Those are some of the things I consider when reading threads.
Also the friendly nature of the posters. Some are more friendly than others. The back and forth give and take flow depends on the conversation between posters.
Threads aren't really dead IMO unless someone hijacks them deliberately by being contentious, argumentative, or divisive. Even then not necessarily.
...when a poster comes across as a non-conformist...that is, when one challenges the current narrative; (whatever that is), those individuals will be challenged, and looked at for any sign of combative or hostile conduct. Then, they will be shit-canned; (deleted). Have a nice day. No room for alternative thought............apparently.
I'm told that in the 1960s, many if not most Hippies wanted so much to be recognized as nonconformists that they conformed assiduously to the rebel image, wearing the same clothes as those whom they sought to emulate and parroting the same ideas while also trying desperately to offend their parents and others against whom it was fashionable to revolt.
When such transparent efforts at nonconformity elicited derision, the self-styled "rebels" often reacted with anger and hostility and combative behavior, which served only to highlight how desperately they craved society's approval. Fortunately for them, however, some of the disgruntled took comfort from the thought that historically great men frequently failed to garner the public adulation their genius deserved.
Do you think Nietzche felt something like that at Lake Orta? I suspect he did.

I got certified in thread killing. I went through a whole thing here where every time I commented, the discussion ended. So I had to ask to be released.
