"Our present and our future will be happier if we are always conscious of the future. As we make current decisions, we should always be asking, 'Where will this lead?' #GeneralConference"

Maybe they should should have done this in 2015, re LGBTQ policy. Just sayin'.

THEY would never make an important decision like that. God made the decision!

Relying on revelation is like a living behind a black veil that blocks out the future.

Lip Service, this one is half-way palatable;

Except, of course, the context of LDS/Mormon/GA Spin being at the Core of EVERYTHING they say.

^^^^^ Totally agree.

That quote is so perfect....conscious of the future, where oh where will this lead?

The sad truth is that even if there had been one of the white-haired-tired-clowns who had asked this question, it would not have mattered one teeny-tiny iota because, 3 1/2 years ago, this was their agenda come hell or high water.....

And, guess what, hell and high water arrived and, they, the clowns, had to tumble out of their massive mansions and eat their words!

No apologies, no empathy for all the hurt caused, BUTT these clowns were forced by unfolding events to eat their words!

You've got to luv it!!!

when I was still in the Church and asking myself where a lifetime of church activity was likely to lead me.

In a way, at a subliminal level, I think the endowment "ordinance" taught me that all of the busywork, hype, pomp and circumstance of the church was ultimately going to lead to a room full of nothing.

Think about it. As a Mormon, before you go to the temple, you get years and years of hype about how fantastic, wonderful and super special the temple WILL BE. Then in the temple, you're instructed to do ostensibly silly things (handshakes, death penalty gestures, playing with robes/sashes/floppy hats/aprons...). You're taught that there's deep symbolism...and the climax comes when you shake hands with some guy through a gauzy curtain and give him the passwords and secret handshakes that supposedly give you access to the highest kingdom of god.

Then, you enter that room that supposedly represents everything you've strived to be worthy of as a Mormon. It represents the "Celestial Kingdom" which is what Mormonism is all about. Everything the Church does is supposed to help lead you to the Celestial Kingdom.

Well, you get into that special room and what happens next?

Well, what happens when you symbolically enter the Celestial Kingdom in the temple?

Nothing.*

=======
*Well, actually, worse than nothing. Some stranger tells you get out, in a stern tone that strongly implies that if you try to stay in there too long, someone from security will be called to escort you out.

'Cause that's what Jesus would do!
