The man who mapped the human genome, who is a Christian, on how he reconciles faith and scientific enquiry.

Scientists know for sure that for flamingos the color of their feather is result of their diet: pigments in their food (called carotenoids) are responsible for red and pink colors of their feathers. They eat shrimps, algae, crustaceans… When they eat, their head is positioned upside-down. They suck water and filter the food.

Scientists also know that if you sew a flamingo head onto a be-headed wolf's body that death will occur for both unless you "reconcile" the two by hooking both up to man-made life supports.

With your Christian type scientist, only his God needs to be hooked up to life support. The human genome part can survive on its own with or without scientists.

I find some types of reconciliation to be on par with Dr. Frankenstein's methods.

“Isn’t this enough? Just this world? Just this beautiful, complex wonderfully unfathomable world? How does it so fail to hold our attention that we have to diminish it with the invention of cheap, man-made myths and monsters?”
