Isn't the opposite of General Conference the Private Conference?
That's when the bishop asks for the most intimate details of your sex life and then shares those details with his wife who then shares them with two friends who each share them with three friends who then etc, etc.

Where specified people gather together at a specific location to talk about narrowly defined matters of concern and completely eschew generalities.

I went to one of those and we spent three hours talking about one dark spot on the fingernail of my left pinky finger, but only focusing on the specific problems of (i) identifying the best method for measuring the depth of the spot and (ii) determining whether the spot was indelible or washable.

After that, I realized that general conferences are easier and allow for more sleeping without missing any important details.

Actually they are one in the same.

You mean there are people who gather to hear/share new ideas and the great ideas of the past instead of being fed the same old stuff and being shamed for the failure of bad ideas? What a concept!

The diametric antithesis exact opposite of General Conference was the Alta Conference held in the early 80s, where all the Antis got together and filmed The Godmakers. Because it was at a ski lodge, that's why you see so much snow in the background of interviews. As the story goes, the LDS owners of the lodge made that the last year for the conference.

Maybe also since cars are parked down the block of every SLC gay bar during Conference Week, one could consider after hours at Gordon Hinckley's party pad to be a sort of opposite alternative to all that heavy conferencing.
