There was am great deal of anti Catholic feeling during Joseph's era. He was a man of his time and this was not original.Read up on Irish and Italian immigration and how unpopular it was.

It comes from 1st nephi. Where the angel says the "great and abominable whore of all the earth." The scarlet robes and gold etc. Then the narative goes into how the pilgrims escaped and came to America to get away from the Whore.

As far as I'm concerned the BOM is absolutely true on this subject and the modern GAs are confused. Catholic church is a sorry excuse for a religion.

I think the term or a similar term is found in Revelation. Most scholars think the term was a veiled reference to Rome and the beast whose number is 666 was Nero. You couldn't exactly come right out and say such things back them. Correction: the term in the NT is Whore of Babylon
