We've seen the Mormon church morph into something that isn't "Mormon" anymore, so much so that they've banned the use of "mormon".

Recently:

Church is now 2 hours

No home teaching or visiting teaching

No boy scouts

Missionaries with penises can now go at age 18

Missionaries with vaginas can now wear pants while out selling

No more Seventies - it's just a bunch of Elders

God went from making us pantomime our own deaths to "Thank You." (seriously, compare the 1984, 1990, 2000's and 2019's temple show)

They are shuttering some of the foreign MTCs for some reason.

No more waiting a year to be "sealed" after a legal marriage

and others I have already forgotten, but I'm curious - what do we all think the next changes will be?

I think that whole covfefe about coffee being ok was just the PR folks leaking it out to see how it would be received and we might see that in a year or so.

(edit to add things that other posters mentioned)

They'd maybe get temple attendance up if you could repent on Sunday, get your tithing caught up on Monday and then go to the temple the following Saturday.

They've already done that. If you don't believe, it's cool as long as you keep your mouth shut and keep paying.

but they will try to pass it off as doing it for the members.

And part of it will be a lie to the public and they won't want us to know the real reason. Just like this change.

They need to let in family members to their children's weddings. Because they let in underage kids into sealings, who we all know are sinners. They need to let in parents and siblings to marriages as well.

They also need to disclose their finances.

They should also make having 2 adults mandatory any time they interview a child.

This is the change I hope for. Three kids, ranging from 4-9. I hope I can see my children get married. My especially my little girl. So I hope this changes in the next decade.

They are indeed running out of policies that they can change to deflect attention away from the next scandal.

There is no great and grand initiative to modernize the church, or to ameliorate the difficulties of being a devout Mormon. They are playing cat-and-mouse with bad publicity- and they are always the cat.

What slcskipper said. It's all to "deflect" attention.

Whatever the next change is, it will do nothing to help those in need, or to "give" to anyone. A rotten tree can't bear good fruit.

How about if they make tithing a "donation" as other churches do instead of making it mandatory to participate in the temple? Not that I would want to step inside a temple ever again but why should true believers have to pay their "dues" or "membership" to a CLUB to be able to attend a temple session and receive the so called blessings? They could just join the Mason's instead.

Mormons have duly and truly joined the Masons when they affiliate with that particular church front.

Other bogus churches spawned by the militant atheist Brotherhood are the Jaydub one (Watchtower) and Christian Science, both which became cash cows too.

Nine of the 12 original LDS poobahs came from their Lodges to lead the Cult.

I wonder if they might send female missionaries out at age 18. You have to balance that with their hope that the women will marry young and start having babies.

What they should do is return more money to the wards for social activities that would bind people together. But the church is too consumed with the temple building binge to do that.

At one time women gave healing blessings to family members and other women.

Joseph said there was no more sin in a woman giving a healing blessing than in putting a wet cloth on someone's forehead.

With many single parent families. This could be an easy thing to bring back.

They did it in their past and some polyg groups do it. It would be a way to reclaim their authority!

Someone has already mentioned that they could hand out the 2nd annoying quite freely if they came up with a 3rd annoying, and made it super special.

Yeah, but what would a third anointing bring to the recipient? They have already been ordained Gods and Goddesses.

Super ghawd, of course! "Being Special" is like a drug. Some get hooked accidentally, while some chase it so hard it's painful to watch.

I once heard a rumor that there is a second endowment for "the lord's anointed" only. They make more covenants. It was implied that the Second Anointing was making the calling and election sure and the second covenants was in conjunction with a "patriarchal priesthood" of "all the keys" and if you made it to prophet your "sealing" of these covenants was what Joe and Brigham did in crowning themselves in the temple.

Wouldn't it be a hoot to see Nelson in his crown?

Right. Something significant and meaningful to God. Something like, members will be allowed to pay someone else to take their place in cleaning the ward house. That would be huge.

The next change will be sacrament cheerios instead of bread.
The bishop will place them on your tongue.

And, the water will become milk. Goes with the cereal.

Captain Crunch for sacrament, but what does the milk represent? Mother Mary’s boob juice?

What strange things do people think of about mormons? Polygamy and funny underwear are at or near the top of the list. They've been trying to downplay polygamy for a very long time. Now's the time to take on funny underwear - by making garments optional outside the temple. It would be a start.

I can see the church eliminating monthly testimony meetings.

No matter how much church leadership offers guidelines about what should and should not be shared in testimony meetings, members regularly get off track and ramble on about health issues, vacations, politics, etc.

Testimony meetings are just plain weird and are an embarrassment for the church. You certainly can't bring an investigator to one and hope that they'll be impressed and want to convert.

Garments optional

Most ward callings will be open to women, in particular ward clerks

Women's TR will be issued by RS president

Women in baby blessing confirm circle

It will be declared that women hold the priesthood by virtue of the temple endowment, they just aren't called to a specific office in the priesthood.

Women, at least the missionaries, will be able to administer to the sick, baptize, and confirm members.

RS and EQ will for all practical purposes be a single organization.

In short, they still need to promote women from third class members to at least second class.
