Just because the meme(s) of Mormonism are tenacious in continuing in our world doesn't mean they are worthy of any human being's consideration.

Forever Family
Work for The Dead
Ancient American Israelites
Pseudo-masonic rituals
Worship of absolutes relatively (whims of their prophet)
Focus on adherence to an organization over the individualism of people

These are things that aren't worthy of human organization and hierarchical control. I assume good governments are an example of something much more worthy of if not respect human consideration and individual deference for the greater good.

Mormons giving LDS Corp deference to this organization's greater good in time, money, and psychological control seems to me a not worthy individual expenditure though I tacitly help this organization in not destroying my relationships to my loved ones over it.

And Mormonism IS tenacious. Tenacity don't make right let alone worthiness. I have zero respect for this organization and my family knows it. Their tenacity in upholding it is not worthy in my eyes and I'm not considered worthy by it.

Human tenacity is a force in the world and when it is bridled by an organization of bad ideals to serve a greater good of fool's errands and folly, it is a marvelous work and a wonder to behold the power of the absurd in human life.

Thanks for that perspective, EB.

things 'could be' a lot different in Morland IF the GAs, COB minions weren't so defensive & intimidating, that would also tend to support the idea that they had something worthwhile to say/promote/espouse, & maintain-nurture...

But instead, MoMism is presented similar to a circus with focus on a (sometimes slowly) changing cast of characters, an ever-changing agenda & lack of substance focus.

There is no end-game, no adherence to a core group of values or teachings EXCEPT to follow the leaders, pray/pay/obey.

Even with the 'pray' feature (currently being down-played), only the 'correct' outcomes - results are acceptable.

How is praying in Mormonism currently being downplayed? I heard it about 10 times yesterday from Mormons.

It's the low (tscc)
Expecting the high (me/ you/ us/ the world)
To pay attention to it.
To worship the (mis)leaders.
To honor it's decrepit practices.
To believe it's dirty beliefs.
To follow it's ugly trail.

It's not going to happen.

We aren't that foolish.
We aren't that dumb.
Crazy. Desperate,
Gullible or Naive.

We have a higher purpose.
We have things to do.
Places to go.
People to meet.
Wisdom to impart.

We have our standards.
We can only stoop so low.
We have life to live!

Joe made his church out of green wood. Now it’s falling apart.

but the useful things are not unique to Mormonism. They're generally the common sense things that can be placed in the category of good ideas like the following:

(1) Look both ways before crossing the street.

(2) Treat others the way that you would like to be treated.

(3) Booze is generally bad for you.

(4) Cigarettes are generally bad for you.

(5) If you want to have a traditional type family that is functional, don't get addicted to hard-core porn and don't treat sex as a sport to be engaged in with as many partners as possible. (Unless you're a religious leader who is sure that sleeping with as many partners as possible is something that God wants YOU to do, but does not necessarily want most of your followers to do, except when one of those followers is someone whom YOU want to sleep with. This is the "Joseph Smith Principle of Sacred Boinking".)

The things that are truly UNIQUE to Mormonism are all more useless than AC units in igloos. More useless than safety belts on skateboards. More useless than screen doors on submerged submarines.

The temple handshakes ("tokens"): 100% useless
The temple penalties: 100% useless (as has been confirmed by their deletion from the temple routine).

The temple veils and submission oaths for women: 100% useless (as has been confirmed by their deletion from the temple routine).

Most unique Mormon scriptures: 100% useless (When is the last time you ever heard a General Authority talk about the devil-detection-handshake test provided in D&C 129? When is the last time any leader expounded on the important spiritual principles revealed in the account of the failed Salem treasure hunt in D&C111?)

Polygamy was worse than useless. (It eventually got Joe killed. It eventually turned out to be a massive humiliation and embarrassment for the Church when the U.S. Federal Government showed the Mormon God who is boss by shutting it down.)

The erstwhile doctrine, since re-branded as a "practice" of mysterious origin, that required that black people be banned from the temples and prohibited from holding the priesthood was another Mormon thing that turned out to be long-term foolishness of the highest order. The church gained nothing from it and obtained a very bad reputation in the process.

"Following the [Mormon] prophets" is another thing that is proving to be increasingly problematic as the new prophets tend to contradict and repudiate preceding prophets at an alarmingly frequent rate. We're not talking about subtle differences in interpretation or adjustments to meet the needs of an evolving civilization. We're talking about diametrically opposed teachings. Flat-out contradictions and repudiations of things that were in the past understood to be bedrock eternal principles.

Mormonism is a mess that spawns messy minds.

Adherence to absolutism in a relative way is a definition of stupid.

I remember somebody here (Bruce the Moose?) once saying: What's good about Mormonism isn't unique, and what's unique about Mormonism isn't good.

More to your point, my wife is always telling me the wisdom of some Mormon teaching, and all I need say in response is, "That's just common sense."

Do they ever teach not to gobble up sugar and sugary drinks?

Not that she's share with me yet.

I'm a bit slow and it may take awhile to progress from milk to what must be the meat of deep Mormon doctrine regarding sugary drinks.

Presently, it is gobble up gobs of bad for you goo and run for the next taste sensation. It is like a mouth orgy of whatever is the best bad for you thing to eat. It has been this way for most of my life. So no change in sight.

Funny how the whole world can be slightly shifting to being more conscientious about what you eat while the Mormons are left bathing in a Jell-O orgy of overly sweet and calorific righteousness.

The line isn't original with me. Tim Minchin, his song White Wine in The Sun.

I don't go for ancient wisdom
I don't believe just 'cos ideas are tenacious it means they are worthy
I get freaked out by churches
Some of the hymns that they sing have nice chords but the lyrics are dodgy

Simon says don’t talk about the temple.
Simon says talk about the temple.
Simon says “I’m a Mormon!”.
Simon says “Don’t call me a Mormon!”.

Simon now says, "I can't. I'm not a Mormon."

Exactly.

Do this.
NO! DON'T do that...

You can't go there.
You can't think (like that).
You can't feel...

If fact,
You CAN'T DO ANYTHING
Normal, Natural, or Spontaneous
