Today, randomly, I saw two blatent examples of g's on display with no apparent thought by the owners that they were showing their religion. Part of me wanted to let them know. The other part of me just tried to ignore it. So glad I am rid of those god-awful things!

No different than a bra strap hanging out of a tank top or undies sticking out of your pants. They're still sacred to mormons, but they're still underwear too.

Where was this? In Utah, they wear them like a badge of goodness. Usually on women, bunched up in the back of their shirts. When they bend over at a grocery store, they're on full display. I know mormon guys, in sales, that many times when calling on a know mormon perspective client, they'll take off their tie, unbutton their top shirt button, so they can see his G's. These are the same people that admonish women for showing their shoulders or wearing bikinis at the pool.

It was in Salt Lake County. One was at the walking track and the other was at the auto parts store.

So you know. I think many find ways to show a little so others know. So much for sacred. Go to Harmon's in Draper on a summer day. You'll see women wearing tank tops over their garments. It's truly a disturbing fashion statement.

I don't know if location matters (I've been told by exmo's that used to live in Arizona, Utah and Idaho that it does), but I would see it a lot here in DC. I remember going to an annual Single Adult conference and I would see women wearing frilly tank tops with their garment sleeves all out there. One woman wore a long sleeved blouse that was sheer in the back, and you would see the back of her bra over the garments.
As long as the skin wasn't exposed I guess...?

At the older singles' dances, those women who had not been through the temple wore low-cut dresses and sleeveless blouses.

Had a MORmON wearing them in my yoga class... couldn't quite figure this one out because he doesn't wear them in the gym and had been attending class for quite awhile. Maybe the garments were protecting him from any Hindu influences that might be presented during the one hour session. I just thought it was so strange as I am very secular and just teach postures... maybe it was the use of sanskrit... should of used reformed Egyptian... he was squirming and re-adjusting his garments for the whole entire class... yoga and G's are a horrible combination and if he was really listening to his inner voice would of come to the conclusion to chuck those silly undergarments... especially since this took place in Phoenix, AZ....anyway he never came again after that... I am sure he was thinking... I was so uncomfortable during that particular class that I am never coming back... the HG is speaking to me through my magic underwear!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the church is afraid to publicly address the issue of letting your smellies show. I think that they're just happy that people are wearing them; even if in poor taste and bad judgement.

When I served a mission, my mission prez and his entourage would personally inspect our apartments and rummage thru our personal belongings [his so-called pursuit of contraband~ illegal music, vhs tapes, cd players, porn].

What was his beef?

That we missionaries failed to properly care for our sacred undies. Half of the apartments had dirty ones on the floors or in plain sight. He went further. He demanded that those of us that had the luxury of drawers and bureaus should add a layer of extra protection: We were to cover up the garments with our towel while they laid in the dawer. If you used your suitcase, a towel was supposed to keep them properly covered as well.

Of course, it made no sense. We had rules that prohibited us from teaching investigators in our personal apartment. That also applied to missionaries of the opposite sex and members as well. Then who the hell were we shielding our g's from?

At home my parents treated their sacred dingy's like rags.

My mission presidents were not so extreme. But we were required to air dry our Garments of the Holy Priesthood inside our apartments rather than outside with the rest of our clothes. (We didn't have electric dryers). We did have maids, though, who washed our clothes, cooked, and cleaned for us. Maids had to be church members, so they could properly understand and handle the sacred underwear.

I remember my parents being very careful to ensure that their TGs and temple robes never touched the floor. My mother always placed a large bath towel on the ground under her ironing board when she ironed her and my dad's robes before folding them and putting them back in the little temple suitcases.

In my mission las criadas would simply hang the garmies out on the line. It was comforting knowing they were standing guard. There were 4 of us in that apartment.

At another apartment, there were six of us, and the garmies flapped in the roof-top breezes.

These were the one-piece, much holier, garmies! We were spiritual studs back then!

I had one companion who insisted on wearing one-piece garments. On his recommendation, I got some. I only wore them a couple of times. Not my taste.

Funny you mention that. The word "stud" was banned about half way through my mission. Our incoming MP was a retired farmer. He said he had heard a lot of elders calling one another "studs" and he didn't like it. He told us he knew what real "studs" were and what they are used for. None one those characteristics were properly associated with missionaries for the lord's true church.

One time when we went to Disneyland, I saw them everywhere. A girl bent over and her top slipped all the way up her back and her garment bottoms were pulled all the way up to under her bra. It was easy to pick out the mormons. Here, it is just rather constant.

I do also see many women who work out who wear their workout clothes all day rather than clothes that cover garments. What I loved was when I saw a girl with leggings with the garment line very carefully tucked in. They were gold leggings--just the color--and it looked actually "dirty" like OMH!

What's the point of being special if you can't flash that specialness now and then?

It seems as though many Mormons want to dress like everyone else...but...they are "supposed" to wear their Gs.

I remember kind of dreading the day that I would "have" to wear Gs when I was a kid, because I really liked wearing shorts. That's one of the things that...er...rubs me the wrong way about reflecting on my experience as a Mormon.

There were so many things that I was just expected to do as a given. One day you'll go on a mission (check), one day you'll wear garments (check), one day you'll marry in the temple (resigned before that could happen).

Perhaps showing a little religion obviates an unwanted garment check.

Yikes... garment gossip runs amuck in Utah.. which makes

me so happy I don't live there and never have. I understand

that the TMB's tried to be careful and not let the gar gar's

show but I think its probably so much worse in Utah than

where I live.

I'm sure of it Elder Berry.

around here. A lot of tucking into cap sleeves, wearing "knee-length" shorts with the garment bottoms hanging out, wearing muffin top jeans (not as much anymore) and when they sit down or bend over you get to see the Gs.

At least there aren't many people who hang clothes on the clotheslines any longer. It was pretty normal around here for people to hang the Gs out on the clothesline.

AND we all know THEY KNOW when their Gs are showing.

That's so sad... can you imagine having to hide

your underware so that no one can see it and gossip

about you behind your back?

The mormon church is Wacked.

When I was fourteen, my father strutted around house wearing nothing but filthy, yellow-stained garments. It was repulsive, and I knew that I would never wear those things. I never did, which led to my disinheritance. All I can see of Mormonism is the blunt stupidity of it. That's how it presented itself to me.

According to this yarn, you hang sheets on the perimeter first, then hang the garments inside that, so they're not visible from the street. Anybody ever hear that?

Yes, in the temple right after the initiatory ritual.

Only had a million things going through your mind and here's a fuddy-duddy spouting off garment care 101.
