Most if not all of us have heard them: 'Faith Promoting' stories, some as blatant/obvious as P.Dunn, many/most not quite as stupid. I'm thinking mostly about sub-apostle sayings, but Go For them if they're your best!

mine include:

(driver ed while on my mish:) "The mail must go thru" means that any postal vehicle has the Right Of Way, regardless of anything else including signs, signals, Everything!

President Kimball NEVER hired anyone to do chores or tasks for him; 'he did it all'

They mean well. (They meant well~ past tense).

That's my TBM Mom's way of deflecting any possible malice or evil intentions to the former priesthood leaders. She even feels that way about a former home teacher that would show up uninvited to private family gatherings: birthdays, graduations and anniversaries. He even came over unannounced and helped himself to our garage and work shed (looking for tools) to fix the brakes on our tractor.

Hell no.

My Dad was a mechanic. He just didn't have the time.

As a 9 year old latch key kid, I freaked out when I saw a shadowy figure attempting to open a side door to my house. I called my Mom at work who in turn called the sheriff. It was the longest 10 minute wait while hiding in my closet.

It turned out that this Brother had become annoyed that we had locked up our garage and work shed. We learned that it was him because he approached my Dad and complained that he couldn't work on the tractor without our tools.

It was a big joke to the bishop when my Dad requested a different home teacher. Just a big misunderstanding according to him.

This is such a scary story. Weirdos and predators do very well with Mormons who are trusting and lack boundaries.

Yes. They are very trusting.

The same BS that conditions members to trust the lying leaders also sets up naive parents to place their children in harm.

-Heavenly Father will protect you if you're obedient.

Then when terrible harm comes from trusting church enabled predator, members spin it the other way.

-It's not for us to question the will of God.
It was meant to be (a tragedy).

Your parents would prefer you came home from your mission ib a pine box rather than;

You committed a sexual sin.
came home early.
disgraced them.

I really loathed to hear that. It was pushed and practiced by my ward/stake at the time. The poor mother was grossly ostracized by members because her son returned early from finding love.

Wickedness never was happiness

According to my family, wickedness was drinking coffee, tea, or alcohol. Wickedness was having fun on Sunday. Wickedness was wearing clothing that kept you cool.

Even as a kid those people sure looked happy. Righteousness felt like suffering... hmmmm.

The overly used crappy saying or excuse I should say, they use anytime someone asks something they can't, don't, or won't answer...,

"It is not for us to know yet, we will get all the answers in time, or when we are worthy to receive them on earth or in the afterlife."

(Translation: "Yeah, we literally have no clue and probably never will cuz like, JS was killed while he was drunk and locked in jail and I don't think he was finished making it all up yet so we guess we will find out when we get to heaven or hell, wherever we go! But we don't know that either so, just keep praying and reading the BoM and going to church, i think, but not sure about that either but just do it, okay?"

"Even in the name of Jesus Christ"
"We are grateful for the moisture" ( I hate that word!)
" I don't know that we teach that"
" I would be remiss"
"Beyond the shadow of a doubt"

This one is a form of victim shaming and gaslighting.

-The church has always taught ________. It's not their fault that members weren't paying attention in class.

(Fill in the blank with any type of information/doctrine/policy that the church has deliberately hid from its members)

The church is perfect; it's the members who are not.

I think there's that awful scripture that says it's better for one to die than an entire nation perish in disbelief.

This was one of the rationale for leaders to encourage missionaries to snitch on each other. My MP was a true asshat. When one missionary was found to be sneaking out for a romantic rendezvous, the questioning lead back to the companion. When the companion admitted that he knew but failed to act (report it) then he was sent home too. My MP loved to repeat the locked hearts talk from SWK; it later became part of our monthly zone conferences.

Anyone see the new commercial with the mixed race couple? I just saw it while cutting up treats for my dogs.

And I agree with messygoop. I hate it when people say to me "They mean well" or meant well. Shit. Sure they did.

I just cut off for good my long time friend over her saying something like this yet AGAIN.

they Gagged on that, so they changed it to: "Families Can Be Forever"

RMN said that exaltation is by families, further stirring the broth/ adding to confusion.

<When they paint themselves into a box, they *always* have cute ways of explaining themselves OUT OF THAT BOX!>
