Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds

Love the guy but, revolution?
Isn't that a bit like a KKK member wanting to lead a Revolution for Black Lives Matter?

I think he's doing a great thing, whether you want to call it a revolution or not. I don't know his motives for remaining a member, but, at least he is shining a bright light on Utah homophobia. He raised over a million last year for gay advocacy groups and has committed to make LoveLoud an annual event. Good for him! My wife and daughter are there again this year. I'm sure they'll have another great time.

I agree, he's amazing. Not critical of him, just pointing out the irony of a MORmON leading a revolution for gay rights, as the abusive homophobic CULT he inherited, and still chooses to identify with, does everything in its power to deny equal rights to gays. I don't know how he reconciles that, I couldn't do it, but more power to him.

I don't understand how he reconciles it either, but, he is just one of many Mormons that pick and choose what they want their version of Mormonism to be and are okay with it. He describes himself as "a unique Mormon", but, in his cherry-picking I don't think he is that unique. What is unique is that he is using his fame to make a difference, and since they haven't ex'd him yet, it gives some Mormons a way to think accepting gays is ok within the church, even though we know that's not true. It's debatable, but I think in some ways his message is more effective as a member than an ex-member, as least to Mormons.

True. He's not unique when it comes to cherry picking MORmONs.
And his entire family is heavily MORmON, so, there's a huge social benefit to not telling your family they're all delusional bigots.

They are a little late to the pink-washing party. Heck, even the CIA and the GCHQ beat them to it.

with gay issues for some reason, UNTIL they are pushed over the edge. I don't know how my daughter does it. She is in total denial in so many ways. She says she has the utmost respect for her father, but still is uber mormon.

Kori,

Sometimes revolutions come from within. Think of Martin Luther. He didn't set out to wipe out Catholicism in a third of Europe but that's what ended up happening. The difference between a reformer and an outright enemy is often the attitude of the organization towards the individual.

This isn't irony as much as paradox: a seeming contradiction that will end up clarifying in one way or another.
