Story in the Deseret News today. It kind of surprises me that they actually covered it.

They need to get their spin out. Silence doesn’t work when a story gets national coverage.

Must... stem... losses.

They still never said a word of the pioneer re-enactors that got dehydrated and had to be rescued by the fire department. Every other news source in Salt Lake reported about it, but the D-News. To most Utah mormons, it never happened.

Well, it's like when a politician knows a report is coming out and casts a false impression in the knowledge that that will prepare the ground for an assault. It's politics 101, and it's what the church is doing.

You and I despise the deceit, but that doesn't vitiate the PR logic the church employs.

I think that's the case here. The news is too bad to ignore so they cut this guy off as not a true upstanding mormon. Clearly, he's outside the standard.

Yes. They do first-rate spin--except in those cases where the retrograde Q15 interfere and the public relations people can't do their job. Sort of like the policy against the children of gay people.

Things would be so much easier for the apostles and prophets if God simply told them to turn over control to the PR firms!

Or the former LDS director convicted of child sexual abuse and the church KNEW of his history. Oh wait! It was covered! Sundance co-founder convicted and that's all we have to say about that at KSL.

Will the MP (on his own) escort him to El aeropuerto, OR help him find a hideout in some obscure Mexican village?

When they say “follow the prophet”, they don’t mean literally.

Can you imagine spending your days tracking these creeps from server to server, looking at the images, gathering them into files, preparing them for superior officers to review and then the prosecuting attorneys?

Sheesh...makes my skin crawl. Think of these professionals the next time somebody disparages the police.

So he would have spent some time at an MTC, as well as the mission field... That's a lot of interviewers whose discernment failed them.

I suspect that many of us had parents who would have dragged our asses to the police station, as opposed to the path taken by his parents.

What are the chances that he was the Priest Quorum president?

Since the bishop is the priests quorum president - no chance.

Then the Elders Quorum President. Some of those guys are real low-lifes.

From their behavior, it seems the parents retained an attorney who told them not to make statements to anyone.
This is their legal right.

Ditto for the young man.

You are not obligated to talk to the police. Usually, the less said the better.

If this guy said nothing,no threats, and just simply put their head on nude body and the "victim" caught wind of it what is their legal options? It's a "deep fake" and not a real picture.

Other than blowing it off as a photoedit is their still humiliating damages to collect?

These girls seem to not have a back bone. They should of just told the guy to screw off. If you do, follow through with your threats you'll see jail time.

We need to bear in mind that the girls mentioned have a life experience of 15-17 years. If they were unable to say "eff off" it was probably only because of their age and life experience.

Yes, they were stupid to send the first pictures to him in the first place, but nevertheless, they shouldn't be extorted like the accusations in the article assert.

Blaming the victim is a page out of the old mormon playbook.

I'm playing by a new playbook now.

Don't these girls have girl friends to bounce off ideas and life drama with? I guess not.

I though "eff off" was a common response with 15 years olds these days using social media.

I'm not blaming the victim but is is pretty head smacking seeing their decisions in the 21st century given the times.

Oh, yes you are.

You are absolutely blaming the victim. Saying the victim didn't do enough to protect themselves is the definition of blaming the victim.

Ridiculous

The victims should use their heads more and called BS on the bluff.

The guy should use his brain more googled free porn if he wanted nude pics.

I'll be giving some street smarts to my young ones to make better decisions.

Blame the victims, get called on it, do it again.

Why? Because the second time around it isn't foolish any more.

The girls were minors. He was extorting minors.

Yes, hopefully parents are with it enough to give their daughters (and sons) warnings about such things. I've heard that Snapchat is often used for sexting, but a naïve kid may not know the dangers. Fortunately, enough of them knew to get help.

That's a terrible thing to say about victims.

Yet another example of how cruel and evil it is of the church to ingrain in children, very young children, how the church expects them and encourages them to serve missions while they are still children.

Missions should be served by ADULTS, AND ONLY ADULTS who are old enough to have studied and decided that this is something they sincerely WANT TO DO.

LDS Youth Missions are just one of the examples of the cult existing to serve the mighty cult....to make sure that they indoctrinate young, UNSUSPECTING, vulnerable, sweet and oh, so TRUSTING, youth who are at an age when the world is their oyster.

I despise the church for this. May it, someday soon, receive in bushels all the evil and cruelty it is dishing out with such a smirk of righteousness plastered all over its deceitful face.

Sexting is quite common,so they all sent him pictures except one. Did he actually know these girls personally?
Something seems to be missing here.

I'm still not sure if the kid is a perv in the making or just sexually messed up due to Mormonism.
I mean, which 19 year old doesn't enjoy looking at nude females LOL right?

In real life someone should have directed him to Red Zone where he could have seen nudes galore or whatever else he wanted 24/7 and it's free without bothering anyone else LOL

But no,Mormonism makes too many unrealistic demands sexually and messes people up big time .

Sexting wasn't the charge. He was threatening girls to get photos. That's extortion, which is a serious felony.

Our society is nearly Totally Warped about our bodies & our sexuality; Mormonism exaggerates this, No Doubt.

Yes, I think a greater acceptance of nudism is a partial answer, but I know/admit it won't 'cure' or prevent some pathologies of sick people, perhaps mostly males....

With better attitudes & information/education about our bodies, starting at early childhood, things will change.

Word of advice. Don't talk to the cops without a lawyer. Anything you say is NEVER used to help you.

Read "You Have the Right to Remain Innocent" by James Duane.
