This past weekend I was planting a rose out in the yard and humming a tune. After a bit I stopped and tried to figure out what the tune was. And then I figured it out.

It was the Handcart Song!

Arrrgghhh! The indoctrination still vexes me!

I was in the shower this morning and found myself humming the melody of "In Humility, Our Savior."

As a musician, I get melodies in my head and they sometimes stay a while....even if they're church hymns :)

That tune [Hyfrydol]comes from an old Welsh melody coopted first into a Protestant tune, then later adapted by the Mormons. It's at least not purely LDS.

Stop trimming your ear hair. That should help keep the worms out.

I treasure the contemplative mood I fall prey to when I begin the lengthy weekly process of plucking my ear hair. I'm sure it's added weeks, if not months, to my lifetime.

Plucking? You pluck? Go pluck yourself! I use a small pair of scissors and snip. Works well except for the occasional nick on my ear. Ouch!

And therefore metaphorical.

The melody of Come, Come, Ye Saints was originally an English folk tune. William Clayton wrote the words and was supposedly heard to say on more than one occasion that he was the composer, but he wasn't.

Thanks to Boyd, whenever I hop in the shower I start singing, “We Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet.”

I never get those tunes stuck in my head. I'm more like south bound.

Should have had a trigger warning on this thread. Now I have an annoying LDS hymn stuck in my head. Don't worry, I won't name it to spare you the same fate.

Just remember, honklermaga,

Follow the prophet,
Don't go astray,
Follow the prophet,
Follow the prophet,
Follow the prophet,
He knows the way!

Aaaaaand you'll be fine.

Especially when chanted by Primary kids like a scene from a Stephen King novel.

Your comment hits so very close to home!

It was seriously seeing and hearing one of my children chant that damn song that triggered my seriously considering leaving the church lo these many years ago. It truly captures the cultishness of the church.
