Since I wished Canada a Happy Birthday Monday, I should do the same for USA. Provo is having their big Freedom Festival Parade this morning, fireworks are scaring dogs, and hot dogs are selling, well, like hot dogs on the Fourth of July.

On a personal note, I mailed my resignation from LDS Inc 15 years ago on Canada Day (a country I spent half my working life in or right next to) and it was received on July 3, 15 years ago. I was trying for delivery on Independence Day, but of course there is no mail delivery that day, so I came as close as I could. Anyhow, Independence Day has an added layer of meaning for me, so mazel tov, or something like that. :))

I’m celebrating with a family BBQ! My family fled Europe to America to escape “isms.” Thanks grandparents for giving me the fruits of your sacrifice. Warts and all, this is a fine country. Happy Fourth, everyone!

Happy 4th, everyone! My daughter was born on the 4th of July, 1985!!! That day, I had eaten a pile of watermelon for lunch and thought at first I had gas. Nope, it was my bebe! I'll be at a bbq in her honor this evening! Y'all have a great celebration!

Considering we virtually wiped out the native population couple of centuries ago and I believe reneged on virtually every treaty, I'm not sure that there is a lot to celebrate.

Drinking and introspection...

I think there are those who celebrate that "...we got away with it!"

You've got a hard sell, there, historian, but since I am stone-cold sober, I'll agree that remedies aplenty would be a nice thing. But that same sobriety urges me to wait sitting down.

The " native population" originated in Asia, from the regions around Lake Baikal.

DNA does not lie.

Shoo.

It's not "your screen".
You don't own this board.

Actually we do own our own screens. (unless we leasing the screens)

I thought board rules required we lease a screen from exmormon.com if we wanted to post here? No?

Who am I sending monthly checks to? I should probably look into that.

What is the purpose of your post, then? You were replying to a post on the slaughter of Native Americans. Your post says they weren't native Americans. What, in your mind, was the connection between their genetics and the massacres?

On a different note, do you know what the word "native" means? Because the Native Americans were both descendants of people in north Central Asia and native to the Americas. The two facts do not conflict.

It's a little late in the day, but for those who might like a pleasant refreshing on their American Revolutionary War history, the musical "1776" is available on disc from Netflix. Howard DaSilva as Ben Franklin is great. Special treat: Blythe Danner singing and dancing about her love for Tom Jefferson, "He Plays His Violin."

We went shopping for palm trees at Home Depot this morning and my husband has a military discount card from when he was in the Army many years ago.

It is very nice, the way each employee always says "thank you for your service" whenever a veteran shops there.

I've never seen such a spirit in other countries.

Anyway, Happy 4th of July !

Home Depot?

Wasn't there a time a few months ago when you described the Muslim invasion of France, Tom in Paris replied that you didn't know what you were talking about, and you answered that you know because you live in Strasbourg?

And now it transpires that you live in the States?

I'm watching a "Capitol 4th" on PBS this evening. It's a helluva improvement to watching tanks on Washington Mall!

Happy Birthday, America, indeed!

Long wave Old Glory.

wReminds me of the old joke, "Wherever you find four Episcopalians, you'll probably find a fifth."

I watched what are probably the best fireworks display in the country, shot up from four or five barges anchored in Boston's Charles River, a full half-hour of sometimes very specialized fireworks. Unusual shapes besides the basic halos, secondary and tertiary off-shoots, etc. They send up a high canopy and maintain that for a couple of minutes while they shoot specialized lower-altitude stuff.

It all starts with the Boston Pops. They segue from the concert into the fireworks with the 1812 Overture, that wonderfully patriotic symphony written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald as he watched the Duke of Washington's forces defeat the Kaiser's army at Waterloo, which I think is in Iowa, thus securing Republican independence.

It's a good thing that George Washington's Continental Army seized the airports or we might not have won the war.

Hahahahahaha! I know, right!? It must have been rough being a flight attendant back in those days what with the poofy powdered wigs and all. And, it's scary to me that the man who made that amazingly dumb remark about airports is the leader of our country.

Well, George Washington did win with the help of Baron von Steuben and his Hessians.

I for one am glad he did.

America is not perfect, of course, but it's the best country I know.

Bertha was the digging machine that bored a new tunnel under part of Seattle for U.S. 99 / Aurora Avenue.

it wasn't built in the U.S. or even in America.

I broke down & had to be dismantled & removed, rebuilt & re-inserted shortly after it started digging.

The legal battles that are still pending are aka the Attorney Relief action of the PNW / 2010s.

in case you're interested, the major legal battles of recent past:

Ride The Ducks fatal collision on another segment of Aurora / 99.

School Funding cases

Assisted Suicide Case, late 1990s (Washington v. Glucksberg)

I like reading the significant cases that break new ground explain legal principles.

Dearest Mother
I write from the tarmac where the ground agents are holding us. It seems no one can find steps - I believe it may be a ruse, but at least we weren’t charged ‘sports equipment’ fees for the muskets. To battle soon, and a latte.

FOFLMAO You could add a reading of your personal rev. war correspondences to the school presentation. If there were airports there, you could have fought in it. This presentation, however, must include a time machine.

And EVERYDAY not being LDS, or believing in that nonsense, is a good day.

Have a good day!
That's what I say :)
