Just so we're clear about the Illuminati: They are best understood as the 18th century equivalent to the Beats. Did they think they were more enlightened than the rest of humanity? Certainly. Were they in fact more enlightened? You decide for yourself. Did they start (or continue) a secret organization whose main purpose is to control humanity? Certainly not. Some conspiracies are real. Conspiracy definition:

An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.

A group of conspirators.

An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action.

Much of what ends up in the courts and headlines is by definition conspiracy.

Attorneys operate off conspiracy theories and look for evidence to prove or disprove their theories.

I think we would be foolish to not consider the possibility of conspiracy.

I don't believe in conspiracy theories myself, but I do believe in investigating them.

Conspiracies are only laughable until proven true - it then becomes history.

Yes, but once it becomes clear that there is nothing behind a conspiracy theory it is laughable to continue treating it as serious.

That is a good question although it was originally my question for you. It falls on us, you and I and everyone else who thinks the truth matters, to decide. Governments and even courts can become corrupt. It is ultimately we the people's job to press for the truth.

It is easy to dismiss a conspiracy theory without evidence. My opinion is that most people don't look to carefully at the available evidence but rather defer to the courts to establish the truth of a matter. I find that often those who dismiss a theory have done little and sometimes no research on the matter yet they hold their opinions in high regard. Public consensus in not always reliable and changes over time.

Governments or powerful influences within governments sometimes advance false narrative so it is not always a reliable source for the truth. Media sometimes intentionally advances falsehood in order to achieve some purpose. It is up to those of us who think the truth matters to do our best to determine what is merely propaganda and what is the truth.

I would argue that it is ultimately up to you and I and the evidence and logic we can bring to the discussion. The question is: do we ever have a real discussion or are we allowed to have one.
