One of my favorite college friends, a Mormon, a sweet guy with a terrific sense of humor, posted this on his FB page as a favorite quote.

"...Shoot em, and do the work for the dead...its a lot easier :)
"

I wonder if he has any idea how truthful that was in Brigham's day?

What is WRONG with people that they would not recognize, especially in these times, how inappropriate that is? How tone deaf would someone have to be?

It also comes across that trying to convert someone or sell the church is too hard so the ends would justify the means.

Chilling indeed.

“But die and get God’s permission. You go first.”

Well, "doing the work" for the dead keeps TBMs occupied.
But the trouble with dead "Mormons" is that they don't tithe.

Well, the infamously dark "Kill 'em all; let God sort 'em out" has been around in one form or another for almost 1,000 years, so that's probably what he's riffing on.

Also brings to mind "Blood and Guts" Patton's pep-talk, "I don't want you to die for your country. I want you to get the other bastard die for his country!"

Should have said "poor bastard." Cannon fodder is such a patriotic thing to be.

This is the best philosophical argument for Might is Right I've come across.

It is hard to wax philosophical with gun wielders.

I think the author knew exactly what they were saying. In some ways, I think the church's missionary system goes against their own doctrine.

I've thought, since leaving the church, that if my mother truly loved her kids, she would have killed them all before the age of 8. That would have guaranteed all of her kids would have a place in the Celestial Kingdom. Yes, it's a morbid thought, but if the goal is to have everyone return, then that's one way to do it.

The other thing is that missionaries should be solely focused on Temple work. The idea being that if you don't hear about the church in life, you will be more able to "accept" it easier in the Spirit World. By doing temple work, instead of spreading knowledge of the church, you increase the odds of people accepting the gospel, the plus side is that they get to enjoy life better too.

The church doesn't want people over thinking these things to their logical conclusions though, so while I thought about this plan (the temple work one, not the mothers murdering their 7 1/2 year old kids one) I didn't think too much about it because there must be "reasons" why it wouldn't work.

But in the realm of Mormon inanity The Book of Mormon is always talking about the days of your probation. Temple "work" is the most anti-Book-of-Mormon thing there is along with polygamy.

My mother failed miserably at interesting her friends and neighbors in Mormonism. I think she moved to Utah County so she wouldn't have any nonMo friends. No guilt!!

She made up for it by being OCD about temple work. I remember she got some sort of special recognition when she submitted her 5,000th name. She considered that a great success. I considered it a criminal waste of time.
