If Nelson had of openly apologized for the pre 1978 priesthood ban for negroes,it would had of been an open admission of the fallibility of last church leaders and prophets.He knows improvements must be made in relations with the black communities of America and try and reach out to them.But he must avoid the elephant in the room and not directly address the pre 1978 priesthood ban,otherwise it raises questions about past leaders to receive revelation from God.Sometimes Catholic popes sometimes contradict more past conservative policies and positions on abortion etc.

The mormon church will never apologize for its official actions and beliefs. They will lie about their actions and change what they say the believe. But they won't apologize. The sad part about this is that they aren't fooling the rest of the world. Their most devout believers will be fooled. But the rest of us know what they're doing.

Nobody seems upset by the change of mind that ghawd had about the children of gay couples not being baptized until they turned 18 AND disavowed their gay parents.

Nobody of any importance seems to be bothered about leadership roulette, where the same basic set of broken rules gets results that run the gamut from no punishment to excommunication. It seems that ghawd inspires these leaders along the lines of their basic personalities.

Foreign language missions went from three years, to X months at the LTM + two years in-country, to now exactly two years, no matter how much time you're at the MTC...

And to me, the biggest one: the changes (seemingly wrought by surveys) in the temple experience. There are people alive who have had three different ceremonies.

From my perspective, the notion that mormon ghawd is "...the same yesterday, today and tomorrow..." is hogwash.

Were they to start to attempt to explain ghawd's deviation from the strait and narrow in gospel principles, not only would it be tiresome, but it would create the image of one seriously unstable divine being.

Yeah, man's ways and ghawd's ways do present a notion that one created the other.

It jeopardizes the authority of the prophet.

The only really core doctrine of Mormonism when you peel back all the layers of the onion is this: "We believe in what the most recent guy in charge said most recently."

Admitting that the counsel of the prophet could be incorrect leaves the door open for any bratty teenager to say the prophet could be wrong--ergo they are not doing as he says today.

Disappointing.

All races should have an equal right to be part of a mind-controlling, life-controlling authoritarian cult. It is inexcusable that black people were excluded for so long.

He cant talk about the law suite. Because, If he apologizes it proves that revelation only occurs when the finances need to be protected.

we were standing outside the temple doors (not fit to go inside of course) at my nephew's wedding. We were joking around, loud laughter ensued. The temple doors swing open and this young black man steps out and indignantly chastises us. "This is the temple," says he. "You all need to be more reverent." I felt sorry for him. In a single generation, his blood line has gone from exclusion to devoted sychophancy.
