They never voted because they figured their votes would cancel each other out.
My neighbor waited until the last minute to vote and only after watching the news. In ancient times they posted results before the polls closed. She always voted for whoever was ahead. That way she always backed a winner.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a system that let more than just these two parties in? Then this wouldn't apply. It's almost as if there is a gentleman's agreement to keep everyone else out.
