I remember talking to Howard W Hunter after a conference in Corvallis, Oregon and we were having a real good conversation and Oaks was there with Hunter. He looked like he couldn’t wait to get out of there. Ha! Ha! Hunter on the other hand was happy, laughing and talking to anyone who wanted to talk to him.

Surely it will come to pass that Oaks will find something to make young marrieds feel guilty about.

Something to feel guilty about, hmm:

1. Make sure your kids are thoroughly indoctrinated, if you slip up its all your fault they don't believe.

2. Are you doing enough to provide a gospel presence in your home?(answer: no, you're not)

3. Make sure you are praying together... this counts as intimacy. If you are having marital problems, this is the reason.

4. pay your tithing... and offerings. If you aren't blessed make sure to pay more.

My guess is Dallin's message will be much the same as it has been for decades:

1. the church is the most important thing in your lives. (subtext: you are a worthless, sinning reprobate without the church)

2. listen to your leaders (and by strong implication - nobody else). Do not question your leaders (even if they are wrong - it is not your place to say anything you sinner).

3. you are responsible for your spouse's salvation (to really lay on the guilt for a spouse that wants to back away from the church)

4. you have a duty to bring spirit children into righteous homes (so go get at it, have lots of kids now, don't wait, and teach them to be obedient drones too)

5. pay your tithing or you will burn at the second coming (no subtext at all here)


See, being an apostle isn't that hard - you just need to know the old playbook.

So Mormons don't do genealogy, they struggle with ancestor-worship attraction?

We (as Gawd's chosen leaders) are sick and tired of you lazy parents loving and embracing your defective children.
