A man directs a woman to a dressing room. She sees a camera above the stall and confronts him. He and the wife try to talk her out of calling police. He was arrested and released on $1000 bail.

The man's name is Steven Murdock and according to sources, he is from SLC and is a former LDS bishop and now in the LDS stake presidency.

Anyone here have any more facts?

as we were taught there is discernment and they just keep proving there isn't. Having dealt with the leaders in my situation, it is good for this to come out. Many people here had some abuse by mormon leaders. And here we have a pervert as a leader.

Also the ways in which suppressed sexuality manifests, which is a big part of Mormonism.

There is also the way the church protects its chosen ones. What are the odds this man has violated Mormon and social norms before? And what happens now? If he is guilty, does the church punish him as they would a normal member or slap him on the wrist as they did Joseph Bishop and others?

This stuff matters because sexuality, in some perverted forms, is a critical element of Mormonism and the Mormon experience.

Doesn't it seem logical that if an exmo made the news for alleged participation in some icky criminal act, that TBMs who knew him or her might be tempted to make an example of that exmo, for the benefit of members considering leaving the church?

I found his linked-in page. His awesomeness is downright celestial...

And one might wonder about the interpersonal dynamics of the marriage...

Priesthood leader. Wow. He needs max sentence if found guilty. And wife involved with this even more weird.

"You mean instead of being super P.O.ed, she tried to help him cover it up?"

"Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man.
You'll have bad times
And he'll have good times,
Doin' things that you don't understand
But if you love him you'll forgive him,
Even though he's hard to understand
......Stand by your man."

Thank you Tammy Wynette.

I think "murdoch" was the name of JS's adopted children

Or does he so believe/buy into the "me" as being this celestial character on linked-in that this kind of behavior does not even register as being "what I do" and so "who I also am"?

It seems a characteristic of any order that straight-jackets adherents into denying their humanity.
In some cases it is associated with very bad behavior, where others are harmed.

In lesser forms this characteristic may present as mere hypocrisy - where these seem to genuinely have no idea that the behavior manifest is in complete opposition to how they think they are. The real person, as actually observed, does not at all match the internal self of who they think they are. (Of course, what is unseen cannot be addressed)

Now confronted with undeniable reality, he may truly be just as shocked and bewildered as is everyone else.

Getting caught doing something you would swear on a stack of book of mormons you have never done or would ever do has to be very sobering! There would be the public display of having to confront yourself regarding who you really are!!

Unless, of course, you want to be a star on a reality TV program.

As an aside, this is why I am muy, muy sospechoso of those who won't meet up with other exmos. And no, this does not include the people with whom I am currently exchanging emails. I'm just waiting to get in and get my hair done...

Lol yer hilarious elderolddog! X-D

These always somehow get written off to "I made a mistake" (and the obligatory ask forgiveness) but the planning & execution of this photography project belies mistakificationism.

Debbil made me dun it.

Now, a distinct benefit of public dramatic expiation is one may suddenly resurrect a new & improved martyred self of the ashes. Just as effective as the original costume.

His wife was in on it and/or enabling him? Ah ha ha.

I guess she's not one of those who was taught to go into histrionics upon learning that hubby watches porn.

Bro. Murdoch is about to learn that Tennessee is not like Utah. No, not at all.

If they (these deviant Mormons) would only engage in legitimate, consensual activities, they wouldn't end up in the news!

He was a bishop?

What kind of "bishop's interviews" might he have offered the ladies?

Revolting to think about.

I offer no evidence, but I have to wonder (now that cameras have become easier to conceal) how often church leader perverts secretly record women of all ages for upskirt or down top cleavage voyeurism?

Not all leaders would think or try to get away with stuff, but I am willing to bet that there are predators out their taking advantage of "you got to trust me, I was hand picked by god."

I see a major problem here that I think the church refuses to see. They act like either coffee drinks or some amount of coffee in your drink might be a big problem, big enough to get press coverage over it. But the sexual repression and resulting major damages that it causes society is not even worth them acknowledging it, even internally. To acknowledge and deal with those issues correctly would require major changes to church policies and teachings. Instead, they choose to talk about coffee and to ignore the illegal and truly unethical actions of several of their church members and leaders. How can anyone develop a normal and healthy attitude about sex and consent when it's all bad and the most important thing is to not get caught? Articles like this are all about recovery. Maybe if this guy gets a long enough prison sentence or a big enough fine, he will get a clue, look inward to try to figure out what is going-on, and leave the church because they taught him false things about his own sexuality.
