"This is the Mormon Church, and we are entitle to be rude!"
I had barely moved to Utah, and was early to an appointment, so I drove up to the street to the Bountiful temple, to see the view. The place was deserted. There were no cars in the parking lot. I stopped in the long painted road section at view side of the parking lot, turned off the motor, rolled down the window, to relax and breathe. Since no one was there, I didn't pull into one of the painted diagonal parking spaces, which would have been too far from the view edge.
A woman in a suburban came up behind me. I didn't move, because the painted road had two "lanes" to pass, plus it was only painted lines, and the entire parking lot opened up on that side. The suburban did not pass me, but stopped behind me, waited, gunned the motor, then leaned on the horn! I rolled down the window, and put my arm out, and waved her to pass me. She still would not budge. I figured that she would eventually realize that we were the only two cars in a giant parking lot, and pull past me, which she did. She screeched past me as fast as she could, and gave me the finger!
Yeah, "Welcome to Utah" is what I thought, too. Mormons feel entitled to be rude, as long as they do their temple work, and don't smoke, and don't cross an imaginary painted line to pass.
Love, and kindness to others is not taught in Mormonism.
Good on your grandmother!!! I love her reply!
