word on TV/Network news was that 'private guards' were "responsible" (ha ha) for their transport...

sounds like the AZ authorities... haven't heard of ... AIRPLANES!!

You ok with incompetent armed guards and murder suspects on your flight? What could go wrong?

why incompetent? I'm pretty sure police & corrections officers can't bring weapons on airliners, just like everyone else...

Why not use-send law enforcement professionals?

Law enforcement (sworn officers) CAN take their weapon on an airliner... IF the have been authorized to do so by their agency.

FWIW, many commercial airlines prohibit transportation of “dangerous prisoners” (facing trial for murder counts) completely. They also prohibit more than one prisoner at a time. And finally, they prohibit bounty hunters or other such “private security” from transporting prisoners.

That all said, I didn’t read the article so I don’t know the specifics in THIS case.

Police or corrections officers should have been doing this, not bounty or private security.

Having looked at the photos of the two murder suspects, I was curious regarding the basic script regarding the escape.

A few minutes ago a local radio duo, the Gary & Shannon Show, explained it while milking the story for laughs.

Apparently, the private extradition guards were motoring across American in a van converted into a prisoner-transport vehicle. One assumes that the two guards, one male, one female, were up in front with the two prisoners, ages 56 and 59, were in the back.

The details the radio gave were that the female prisoner made a complaint of extreme lower bowel distress, with approaching extreme consequences. The guards pulled over, apparently along an empty stretch of road, and the opened the rear of the van. The prisoners then 'overpowered' the guards, slipped their bounds and then took off in the van. They met up with a friend who loaned him his pick-up, the one the authorities are looking for, and have disappeared from sight.

The private prisoner transport company has lost its contract with Pima County, AZ.

The radio duo made sport of the guards' guarding abilities and wondered if they were older than the prisoners?

So there...


ETA: the radio duo just added a delightful fillip that will doubtlessly provoke more head-shaking: The guards were themselves unarmed, but did carry a weapon in a lockbox in the front of the van. They chose not to open the lockbox before freeing the prisoners. One supposes that the ages of the prisoners made the guards entertain a false assumption.
