Why is the University of Oregon paying a million bucks to a school (BYU) that discriminates against gay students?

Probably because the moral conflict does not rise to an uncomfortable level.

Most Americans with an iPhone don't mind the support they give to China with said purchase, and how big would the local Walmart be if products made in communist countries or by child labor we're not stocked?

Because as the article says "byu has a legal right to discriminate." It is a religious institution with it's own morals. UofO I'm sure could discriminate too, and refuse to do business with BYU.

The easiest way to solve this dilemma would be to take a vote of all the students and see if they think LGBTQs issues are important enough to disrupt the football contract. Democracy in action.
