vpns and incognito modes in browsers can be used to access "forbidden" sites. How realistic that missionaries could use these methods to look at something not church related on a church jailed device?

Netguard, a no root firewall and just disable it's network access

Upon further consideration, the mission app is probably a local VPN like netguard already and you can't easily nest VPN on mobile.

Android 10 supports multiboot which could be a bypass. librem 5 or pine64 phone wouldn't even support the church app in the first place.

It's possible the user account system of Android 8 and 9 could be a bypass but I'm not sure.

A rooted phone could bypass it with the freeze function of something like Titanium backup.

Private mode only hides things from the app's history and deletes some cookies. Everything outbound could still be logged or monitored separately. Your router log and ISP logs will show all activity regardless of private mode. And the easiest way to log it would be with VPN behavior of its own.

Just get your own burner phone. Easy peasy.

wait... I thought you had to be a spy, on the run from the coppers, or a drug dealer before you could buy a burner from Walmart!

Last year I taught seven year old children who had no problem bypassing the school system's filters. I'm sure that the missionaries can get it figured out. lol
