A leading candidate for SLC's Mayor is crying because others are using her mormonism against her. Ha!Everywhere else, Utah mormon politicians use their faith as a qualifier (you can't vote for him-he doesn't even go to church). Payback's a bitch.

“Offering no evidence whatsoever, to claim I would do the bidding of the LDS Church is offensive to me not only as a member of that faith, but as a woman“

Well yes, it’s not her fault that Mormonism is now seen as a deficiency in critical thinking skills.

To be fair, I think Rocky Anderson's charges were kind of a low blow. I know Luz somewhat from her work in the state legislature. I'm pretty impressed. "Whiner" is pretty far down the list of adjectives I would apply to her.

I know Erin Mendenhall better, and am impressed with her too. IMHO, this will not be a choice of the lesser of two evils. I think it is ironic that Mendenhall is not LDS, because the name and the face are "LDS RS President" :)

But yeah, I don't think being LDS hurts politicians in SLC, but not being LDS clearly doesn't hurt them. It's been 34 years since the last LDS mayor. Being a woman doesn't hurt you either. The two female candidates finished 1 and 2 in the 8 way primary. I really had my doubts that either one would finish in the top 2. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm relatively new to living in SLC, but it is an entertaining place from which to observe the Utah Circus. There are two liquor stores, the SL Temple, and 2,000 scooters all within walking distance.

But no adult bookstores. TSCC should praise the Internet for killing them off.

No adult bookstores is by Utah law. They're illegal. So is buying or renting an adult DVD. Go across any Utah border (where Utahn's come to buy liquor and Lotto tix) and you'll find adult bookstores/DVD sales.

SLC has had a female mayor (gay, too) for the past 3 years. Why does them finishing 1,2 surprise you? You know that mormons put the allegiance to the church above the wishes of constituents. Exhibit A; the Utah Religiouslature.

Wait! the Utah Religiouslature Hasn't prohibited online porn?

What's a mad/displaced TBM spouse (wife) to do?

They've tried. Also tried with cable and satellite providers. There's no technology to do that without shutting off everything else with it.

I think it's a valid question considering the way the Mormon church has historically thrown its weight around in Utah. But this woman seems to do her own thinking and has a track record to prove it.
