So the Utah legislature has approved a ban on licensed mental health professionals performing LGBT conversion therapy on children. And everybody in Utah and is ecstatic and the news media is going ballistic and the Mormon community is going into apoplexy patting themselves on the back.

Just a touch of reality here: NOTHING WILL CHANGE. The conversion therapy stuff was never performed by licensed professionals in the first place, at least not principally. It was performed by people who view governmental licensure rules as Satanic. It was performed by people who believe that they have a divine mandate to do whatever they damn well please to whomever they damn well please regardless of the consequences. The new law has an exception for clergy provided the parents or grandparents of the child. We all know that that is a loophole wide enough for a Cadillac SUV to drive through.

Ecclesiastical leaders will get confirmations of the Spirit that every LGBTQ child is under the influence of Satan. They do not see it as a mental or biological issue. They see everything as a problem of sin, and they just know that they are specially authorized by God to cast out the devils that are tormenting those poor children. So mark my words: conversion therapy will go through the roof, there will be a suicide epidemic, and Mormons will see everything as proof that we are living in the Last Days.

I read somewhere on this board that there was a secret program at BYU at one time, to convert gay adult men to make them straight (at least in theory and not that it actually accomplished that). They would hook electrodes up to the gay man's penis and then show him gay porn. When he got an erection, they would apply a painful electric shock. Does this still go on in Utah and if so, does the Mormon church still sanction it? I am straight but this procedure still sounds wrong on so many levels.

That was 40 years ago, so probably not.

I wonder if it would cure my addiction to RfM.

Slight correction: they did not attach the electrodes to the penises. They attached sensors that would indicate when the person's penis started to get stiffer/bigger, which would then activate electrodes placed at the temples (like current ECT therapy- google it).

But it should never be forgotten that one of the main drivers of this practice was some guy named Dallin H. Oaks.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of Mormon parents who think that's exactly what church leaders are there for.

Even Mormons can't hit their kids any more by law, but like with this new Utah law, Mormons are free to scramble their kid's brains all they like. Beat them, you go to jail. Beat their psych, their self esteem, their brains, and you go to the CK.

Mormons are grown in a vacuum. New growth, new understanding evades them every time as they duck and cover in the face of the worlds spiritual progress.

I even shared a story from a lady cab customer of mine who was attending BYU and subjected to the horror...

I'm keeping some confidences at her request (this was several years ago), but her statement was they strapped electrodes to her "private parts," showed her pictures of nude women, and shocked her when she responded.

Don't look for any "full disclosure" from LDS, Inc. on this hot potato item.
