Ahhhh....this is a fine video of the rescue/medical care efforts which are going on right now.

From some other videos I have seen about these same kinds of wildfire-caused medical efforts, I was struck by how many koalas--and kangaroos too--are spontaneously hugging (as a non-verbal "thank you") the humans who are helping them.

Beautiful koalas.

Thank you, Topper!

I often watch videos of wildlife rescue efforts in Australia (even long before the current fires,) and IMO this is common behavior for the animals that are being cared for.

It reminds me of one of the stories recounted by Kipling in The Jungle Book, in which he tells of animals in a severe drought congregating at water holes and stopped trying to kill each other. Once the rains returned, the old patterns reasserted themselves, but during the crisis animals started interacting peacefully with normally hostile species.

Perhaps that is what is happening with the wombats sharing their warrens and the koalas hugging the humans.

I'm happy that it touched you. Yes, animals are so appreciative of any kindness we show them. They have a lot to teach us dense human animals.
