This was a U.S. reporting service, not one of the big three. Right in the middle of the broadcast, after they had been talking about China at length, they said that the U.S. has 66 suspected cases in 22 states. Then they went back quickly to the previous reporting. That's all I heard.

Seems maybe the powers that be might not be giving us the whole story, so as not to alarm people as to its severity. Just figured I'd pass this along, in case anyone is interested.

There's a reason a lot of diseases, particularly strains of influenza, originate in East/Southeast Asia: the way they keep their animals.

In this case, the transfer may have occurred from bats to snakes and then to humans. With a lot of flu strains, the host appears to be ducks, which then transfer the virus to pigs and thence to humans. This happens because in Southeast Asia, and particularly vietnam, farmers keep their ducks and their pigs in the same pens, making it much easier for the vectors to jump species barriers.

Don't blame the ducks unless you want to throw down.
