The first presidency issued a letter to warn parents that it is their responsibility to safeguard their children about the dangers of P-o-r-n. Just in time for the month of love, infatuation and lust.

The letter was sent to every member's email account three days ago and I saw an article on the not Mormon enough magazine's website (LDS living). There isn't an official press release on this. Maybe this will be the new way of making church policy.

I thought you were referring to the "that time of year again" letter sent out by the Mormons at Christmastime. I got several that actually said, "It's that time of year...." in the opening line, and then it and went on to say, "For tithing settlement!" I thought it was going to be a Christmas letter from my church, but, not!

The only way I can think of to protect children from pornography is by aborting them prior to birth. We are surround by pornography. We are wired for pornography. Pornography may be viewed, read, heard, imagined and found in viewing and touching our own bodies. The church seeks to eliminate anything that stimulates independent thought or action.

I found out a good friend of mine has a grandson who is addicted to porn and is 12 and has been molesting his younger sisters. What do you do then? He doesn't like the therapists the state has been sending the child to.

If there is SO MUCH FOCUS ON PORN like it seems the lds church does, where do you find a happy medium? When the church is telling the kids they can't even touch themselves? Just don't do anything at all is what they want.

It makes me sick. I think all this focus on porn is so detrimental to a kid's ability to deal with it all. You can't JUST SAY NO.

I do think us ex-Mormons underestimate the impact pornography has on not only young developing minds, but also adult minds, too. I don't care to censor pornography, but I don't find it all that compelling, either. I don't know, but I think we're too quick to jump on the porn bandwagon because we chafe at being controlled, which I understand. This is a tricky issue, for sure.

I have to wonder where the flip are his parents? That's the first question that needs answering, No 12 year old should be unsupervised. Some kids are just bad seeds, I've seen it. They need to tie his hands to his bed permanently!

Porn doesn't create molesters. In that kid's case something else, something truly serious, is going on.

Usually when people constantly talk about something being a problem it's usually that person who has the problem. The church is so obsessed with porn; maybe the church leaders have a porn problem. Also. Maybe Oaks and Bednar are closet homosexuals jealous of the gays who can openly be gay but they can't be.

I know my father is a closeted homosexual that had a major porn problem that got blamed on me of course. He was a total hypocrite. Anyways, life would have been better if he would have just came out of the closet and the entire family left the church when i was like 3 years old or something. I would have been way less confused.

Is there any other Mormon sin with a shortened nickname? I'm not talking about all the lists and lists of words and phrases for sex and self "abuse." I mean the church wouldn't say "gay" but same-sex. They won't say porn but pornography. They won't say cheating but adultery.

But their members say porn. It is like a familiar name for something ubiquitous. I could say the same about gay. Listening to my Mormon family talk about it though they try to say same-sex but it sounds so odd even to them. They say porn. It is funny how the "Mormon" word is like a swear word now but Mormons don't really have much in the way of influencing the world. No one is going to say same-sex pornography when talking about gay porn.
