Church officials say they are are closely monitoring how to best to keep their 65,000 missionaries safe, especially in Asian countries hit hard by the virus. Earlier this month, the faith transferred 113 missionaries from its Hong Kong mission to other places.

Missionaries who were set to go to Japan, Cambodia, Korea, Singapore and Thailand will either postpone or be sent to another country and those nearing the end of their time will be sent home early, the church said Thursday. Missionaries in Mongolia who aren't from there will be transferred elsewhere.

Missionaries already in these countries are being told to mostly stay inside, stay 6 feet (1.8 meters) away from people when they go outside and to do their proselytizing by phone or online.

Any missionary returning home from these Asian countries will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days, per instructions from the World Health Organization, the faith said.

*So are missionaries going to do proxy baptisms for the living? This in response to staying 6 feet or more away when proselytizing outside.

Great. Due to religion, there is going to be a spread of the COVIND-19 or coronavirus.

That's already the case.

The main outbreak in Korea is due to a church in Daegu.

In Iran many mosque are refusing to cancel services because God will protect them.

Then there is the religion of totalitarianism. China announced the illness at the end of December, but it had been circulating for over a month and the doctors who first warned of it were punished for going public. One of those doctors has now died of the disease.

I'll say they're making adjustments.

"The First Presidency of The Church [Formerly Known As Mormon] announces today that the leadership sessions for General Authorities, Area Seventies, and General Officers presently scheduled to be held on April 2–3, 2020, in conjunction with April general conference, have been postponed for six months, until October 1–2 of this year."

https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/leadership-sessions-april-2020-general-conference-postponed

Too bad there isn't anyone authorized to exercise the power of god on the earth today as in the days of old. If only a prophet could be found, I bet *he* could do something about it.

Not only that, but in the same news report that TSSC is also encouraging everyone from foreign countries to stay away from April conference.

It's too bad. April Conference was supposed to be the big whiz bang meeting to celebrate the beginning of it all in 1820.

Oh, well. I guess they figured it wouldn't be a good look if the church formerly known as mormon brought the corona virus to the USA.

I would not allow a child of mine to go on a mission under these conditions.
Are they insane???

It's safer to hug someone than to shake their hand w/r/t germ transmission. I give zero fucks about being dirty and gross, but when I get in from dealing with those poopy ducks, I wash my hands and sometimes pour some isopropyl alcohol on them. Invariably I have some nick or cut. I recently got a tetanus shot.

So, yeah. We do *not* have this illness even close to controlled. The CDC pandemic team plus WHO would travel *to* the countries with outbreaks and try to treat them there so the virus might not make it here, or at least the damage would be mitigated. Where's the pandemic team? Oh right. We don't have one anymore.

We don't live in normal times. It's the common cold! OMG.

So, yeah. I trust science, and right now infectious disease specialists are sounding the alarm. I'm heeding the call and throwing out clichés like a mofo.

I heard 1000x times today, again, to observe the usual (simple, effective) "public health" precautions:

1. Do not touch your nose, mouth, eyes with your own bare hands (or anybody else's) due to being portals of entry for germs.

2. Cough or sneeze into your elbow (if you're coughing or sneezing to start with - that one's for EOD's smart-aleckness) :)

3. Use disposable tissues but throw them away right after use (no re-using or hoarding used tissues).

4. Wash/scrub your hands often, and under hot water with plenty of soap, for at least a minute, especially before eating. Use clean towels.

5. Wash your hands especially after you have used the toilet, even in your own home, but obviously in public areas. (You would hopefully do this always even without a scary virus due to other nasty crawlies that cause intestinal infections, etc).

6. Get a flu shot. (Free in Canada, not sure about elsewhere). While it doesn't specifically guard against the C. virus (a vaccine hasn't been developed for that yet) medical experts say it can perhaps help. It will also hopefully prevent you getting the seasonal flu or at least make it less virulent.

7. Avoid being around someone who is sick!

8. Stay home if you are ill (even if you don't think it's corona or don't yet know).

9. Listen for updates by public health officials.

10. Listen for travel advisories and observe recommendations.

11. Seek medical attention if you think you have suspicious symptoms, especially if you have recently travelled and/or, obviously, if you have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the virus. ***Call ahead to ask questions and/or to inform them that you may have been exposed or may be infected so they can give you instructions on where to go/how to proceed - to protect you and anyone with whom you come into contact.

12. Be prepared with a few days' supply of non-perishable food and water and ensure you don't run out of prescribed medications; also maybe have some Aspirin and/or Tylenol around.

**This is not advice to "stockpile" but merely a precaution in case you get sick and can't make it out for a little while. This is a good tip for any time anyway.

13. Don't panic. Stay informed. Observe precautions.

14. Ensure your emergency kit is stocked up (check online to see suggestions for what it should contain).

-----

A facetious (for now) #15: Be prepared to cancel your tickets to the Olympics. :(

I've spent weeks nagging family members about all the above and how to guard against casual exposure to pathogens, such as at the grocery store, touching doors and counters and shopping carts (that never get cleaned and have been touched by a million hands; also, how often do shop clerks get to wash their hands before they touch your bare naked fruit and produce I wonder).

So this a.m. I'm the one who wakes up with a raging sore throat. Rats. Sometimes you can do everything right and still the little bugs find you. But for sure I have not been exposed to the big one. But I really hate sore throats and sniffles. Feeling ill though gave me a chance to binge watch all the health updates all day. Hence my lecture above.

Life is an obstacle course eh? There's always something...

Hahaha! It is.

Yeah, I'm not usually the purell person. And like you said, wash hands - rub rub.

I used to ultrasound preemies brains in the NICU to see if they had bleeds. Right through the anterior fontanelle.

I disinfected my machine. I had sterile gel. clean scrubs, booties, hair thing, all that stuff. And we had a timer on the sink to ensure that we washed our hands for three minutes. Then gloves. You know the drill.

Nosocomial infections - bad bad bad.

No problem. Even if this all turns out to be no worse, or less worse than the Swine Flu of 2009, here is some good advice from the Aussies on staying safe.

Why can’t Rusty consecrate a few gallons of high quality extra virgin olive oil and send a bunch of vials to the missions? The missionaries should be out giving priesthood blessings to those infected. Problem solved.

Well, unless Rusty isn’t actually a living prophet.

April conference in 1918 was canceled during the Spanish Fly situation. (I thought Spanish Fly was funnier than Spanish Flu; go ahead, sue me!)

I would like to see the celebratory bicentennial celebration of the Sacred Groove apparition (have they picked one?) tossed into the dumpster as well. I would very much enjoy the visual of a supposed divine institution unable to elevate itself above the mundane.

Hey, do crickets eat Corona Virus?

If 70% of the 7.5 billion humans get the virus, and .02% die, where are they going to bury all 105 million bodies? Let's say that bodyweight averages 100 pounds...that's over ten billion pounds!

For the US, that's 4,578,000 deaths from Corona Virus and over 450 million pounds of flesh.

And what if exactly .02% of church members who get sick die, the same percentage as the gentiles? Do you think that will be too subtle a hint for the TBMs to process?

Anyone got any advice on how I can survive?

Look on the bright side. Church leaders are more susceptible to complications of the virus due to age.

Yes, but the age factor is offset by how diligent church members are with regard to staying in shape!

The church's reaction to the Spanish Fly situation was nothing compared to its panic during the French Letter problem!

Y’all are missing the obvious. Dontcha think it’s a little coincidental that this virus showed up just in time that the height of it will be right during the super special celebration of the miraculous first hallucination? The event that would sow solid belief into the hearts of all followers of the beloved founding philanderer? Huh? Coincidence or mystic happening? It’s SATAN I tell ya. If this celebration goes off as planned, he may never get another exmo in his coffers. He HAD to stop it.

Just like God produced the Internet for the sole purpose of spreading the gospel and speeding up genealogical work, Satan produced Coronavirus to curtail the work—to stop the celebration, bring the missionaries home, and interrupt the supply chain of essential oils. The end is near. The battle between God and Satan is heating up big time and we are the pawns on the game board.

Good point.

Also, keep in mind that Rusty himself had been touring the Far East back in November though that was a couple months before the outbreak of the virus.

Previously, I had speculated what might happen if Rusty would pass on prior to this big celebration of the first vision. On one hand, he seems to really despise "mormon culture" like pageants, singing and shows. But on the other hand, he really likes to be the world-traveler, snow skier, two-women stud, look-at-me rock star with a magic-light pen.

So as long as he's the center of this big-whoopee celebration, I think it's a green-light for unprecedented church spending. I do speculate that it might be scaled back or cancelled if he were to become suddenly ill.

I fail to understand why any male missionary would need to be transferred. They have garmies. They have the M-priesthood. They have taken sacred temple covenants. They are the Lord's anointed. The are front-line Jesus ambassadors, and I would think the Lord Jesus would want them to stay put, use their powers to heal people - and not run away. Oh yee of little faith Mormons. Makes me think that all those F&T meetings, GC talks, Missionary return-home talks, ensign articles, etc - all not true, but a bunch of gibberish.

This is where the rubber meets the road Mormons..where you put your faith to the test. Don't cut and run, walk your talk. Show your faith.

The real question is why didn't the profit know all about this before the missionaries were called to these countries. They could have warned everyone, contained the spread....

LOL--burn all the China-manufactured junk in the Deseret Bookstore, along with those BOM's.

Thank you, posters, for all the good health advice!

Perhaps, we should apply some of these, and the missionary guidelines, right back at the missionaries, and other intrusive Mormons:

--Stay 6 feet (1.8 meters) away from Mormons.
--Don't let Mormons spew on you.
--When they do their proselytizing, turn off the phone, delete them online, close the door, walk away.
--If a Mormon shakes your hand, wash for 3 minutes with soap and water, and think happy thoughts to disinfect your mind.
--Stay out of all Mormon buildings. They aren't cleaned properly. If you need to use a restroom there--just hold it.
--For heck's sake, don't clean any Mormon bathrooms, even if they tell you they're God's bathrooms, even if they threaten that God will withhold His blessings from you.
--If you must go into a Mormon building, exhale only. Don't inhale until you are outdoors in the fresh air again.
--Stay away from crowds, and that means scarament meeting! Some of our ward members used to make little beds on the pews for their sick children, with a pillow and blanket and everything.
--Keep your children away from Primary, to protect them from germs and brainwashing.
--Oh yeah, don't take the sacrament that's handled by those snot-nosed kids.
--If you do get sick, demand that your Mormon "minister" come over to your to your bedside, and give you a hands-on priesthood blessing...and wait and see who shows up....

--I think it behooves all Mormons to "self-isolate" for 14 days, or even longer than that. I mean, you don't even know when you are contagious with something, because you can spread the disease up to 2 weeks before any symptoms appear. I would recommend isolating from all cult activities until the flu season is over. This year's flu season is unusually late, so, maybe an isolation until summer vacation would be wise.

I will continue to "self-isolate" from the Mormon church forever.

SRSLY, there's a ward in Sandy, where a dozen Mormon couples went together on a fancy, expensive cruize to China and Thialand, and all over. They returned just under the wire, before all the quarantine sanctions, but a lot of members refused to go to that ward for a full month, after that (2 weeks for the quarantine, plus two weeks for the sick people to keep going to church when sick). LOL! They are far more likely to catch the American strains of flu.

I heard someone yammering in the grocery store about how the church calling home the missionaries is a fulfillment of prophecy and confirms we are in the last days. As in, right before Jesus comes again his missionaries will be called home.

Typical Mormon ignorance and then some, since Mormon doctrine claims a number of things have to happen before the missionaries are ALL called home, many of which haven't happened. So not only is she Mormon-dumb, she didn't even know her church's own teachings about the last days.
