It seems to me that Mormonism relies heavily on folk magic. There was even a book written about it. Magic only works if you believe it. Back in the 19th century, belief in magic was commonplace.

Today’s society no longer believes in magic. You probably don’t believe in magic. That’s some good conditioning. The special sauce of Mormonism is now non-functional. That’s a huge problem. If magical thinking were possible, they could tolerate all of the negative aspects of their religion. They lost the ability to “be Mormon” and can only go through the motions.

They still believe in folk magic.

During the troubled time with Mark Hoffman, Dallin Oaks tried to "explain" the White Salamander, saying it was an angel,and that that was the way they described angels back then.

Afterwards, he had the nerve to tell the members that they needed to be more "sophisticated" in the things they read.

The belief that paying tithing will bless them is probably undergoing a paradigm shift now. Watching long term investments disappearing is disheartening. It will be more difficult to write those tithing checks.

Believing that you can stop the corona virus with mind powers is also belief in magic.

Well the gold plates certainly disappeared like making a rabbit disappear. That was a pretty good trick which got tons of followers to literally surrender everything they had.

In Mormonism, it's substituting how they'd like things to be in place of the reality most people are dealing with:

Mormonism: there are No Mormon homosexuals

More than that it shows how much magically thinking started this whole thing Mormonism. Angels visiting humans anymore? Nope. Moroni's magic trumpet fell out of his hands.
