Posted from earlier thread but it reminds us all of the marketing in hushed tones by the Mormon Church - things being too sacred (despite the hosanna shout and First Vision being shown to the corners of globe), rumors of revelations (gaslighting that there is more) and faith promoting folklore (GC talks, celebrity missionary stories, throw in status locale seeking temples in there) manufactured to make the church seem like something - really anything, than what it is - an impotent petty cash cow)

It keeps people running on a hamster wheel over the fear of loss when in actuality it is just creating faith-based mental illness.

It is you that chooses to seek help and in regards to your family you can love them and try to help where you can but it doesn't mean you should be required to live a life of mental illness too.

The world is a great place. There are good people all over.

membership counting & activity levels, resignations are secret.

ask to see past FP SM letters which were read in church; the '70s one telling that de-caf coffee is OK comes to mind, also the DOM era ones about 'artificial' (why is the method an issue?) birth control.

ask about the times, dates, & contents of (claimed) revelations; they're secret too.

It's more than being two-faced: telling the members one thing and the world at large another; soft sale, M before M, etc., ETC , etc
