Who expects them to have the slightest bit of cred?

not me.

Nelson is an actor, grinning for photo-ops (including with members of my direct family), acting the role assigned to him.

I asked him for some personal help with my family healing, Nothing Doing Bub!

Nelson is trying so hard to be relevant.

Nelson is the irrelevant in the room that the members pretend to honor.

No one can understand the struggles of young African American men quite as well as a 95 year old white dude.

In the same way, mainly white, middle class privileged SJWs are unable to understand the struggles of anyone but themselves. Despite all the noises they make to the contrary.

What took so long to get that revelation?

He sights Jesus as an example of helping the "marginalized"? Obviously Nelson hasn't read the Bible, Jesus was very racist, and very sexist, That's the Jewish culture,.. at least in those days. He called a women a dog, and didn't talk to or acknowledge Gentiles.

Ah, now I understand why you consider yourself a follower of Jesus.

You remember that whole Samaritan story, right? Sermon on the Mount?

The Mormon church is trying to lure the people in Africa to become church members and to pay tithing to the Mormon church. Nelson has to at least pretend to care about black people. How many community building projects in Africa does the Mormon church fund? How much does the Mormon church spend to educate black communities right here in the USA? Words are free. Where does the Mormon church spend its money?

"Where does the Mormon church spend its money?"

Uh...no where. Did someone already do the math where the amount of money they spend on charitable causes isn't even the interest they earn on their 100 billion slush fund?

I'm not sure I understand the term 'slush fund'.

As a graduate of the UW in business, I just can't fathom any organization keeping large sums of CASH anywhere.

accumulated money is WASTED if it's just sitting in a large amount (bank vault, stuffed in a mattress, etc.) , it should either be invested (which usually puts others to work) or dispersed to the equity owners for their private uses.

If ChurchCo buys land & sub-divides with utils, roads, etc. or builds buildings, commercial or residential, that in itself isn't a 'bad' thing, is it?

Hoarding on more than a small scale (toilet paper, ha ha) is stupid.

Once again they make a statement too long after the fact. They are impotent and trying to be relevant.

They have no credibility since in general they have been an obstacle for advancement of any civil rights.

It's all about potential converts. They see Africa as their biggest growth market.

"President Nelson’s message condemns racism, saying, “We abhor the reality that some would deny others respect and the most basic of freedoms because of the color of his or her skin.” "

"“We don’t have to be alike or look alike to have love for each other,” he said at the time."

2 Nephi 5:21:
21 And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.

just me?

I view Nelson & the occupant of 1600 as cut from the same cloth;

lots of lip service to preach to the choir (different choirs), but little else.

What a shame for those who seek substance & real leadership.

It is my unbiased opinion that the heirarchy of the Mormon church care for themselves first and all others later

Nelson said that destroying property solves nothing, but Joseph Smith didn't hesitate to destroy a free press.

Agree with people above - Nelson is trying to be relevant since his prophecy gig didn't work out.

I believe that if you ask Nelson this direct yes or no quetion "are you a prophet?" his answer would echo Hinkley's "I am sustaines as such" NOT yes or no

Titles are rather easy to assume, 'Do you receive & pass on direct, specific messages from God / HF?' is a better question.
