Last month, two of my coworkers died. No cause of death was shared, which was weird, right? The job always tells us. Isn't the cause the most important thing to know so we can be like, "That is a horrible thing, and I'll add it to my list of 'Ways I DO NOT want to die!'"

So, we didn't know. Rumors abounded and things were out of hand because we *deserved* to know, right? Isn't that the *least* the family can do?

Last Wednesday, one of the families shared an obituary.

They asked us to honor their son, brother, grandchild by sharing a laugh and singing disco music in a Kmart parking lot.

So Turn the Beat Around while you Shake Your Groove Thing on The Groove Line. Knock on Wood and protect that Heart of Glass on your way to Funkytown. We Are Family, and I Feel for You. Get Down Tonight, you Dancing Queen. It is a Celebration of a too short life.

He was a beautiful person, and these songs - they are making me laugh.

And the Beat Goes On.

And on and on with this beat crap on a site which was once, in better times, a forum for those who sought enlightenment on the road to recovery from THE CULT.

Get back on the ball Beth.

Yes! I think they decided, "We'll deal with the circumstances of his death. You don't belong there. We'd like you to focus on these things... ."

He had an eye for cheap cars and expensive computers. He also had an apt appreciation for the absurd and was a fan of "Seinfeld", "The Simpsons" and "Top Gear".

If you can, have a laugh or a smile to honor him, or sing along to loud disco music with the car windows down in an old Kmart parking lot.

The disco era was major cringe for me. All the same, I can tolerate the random Bee Gees or Abba song. Did anyone else appreciate the disco music in the movie, "The Martian"? It was so much fun to see Matt Damon's character start from a place of exasperation at his crew member's choice of music, and then grow to wryly embrace it since it was the only music available to him.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll rewatch it.

Have you seen "Guardians of the Galaxy"? Dude (too lazy to look up his name), has a mix tape and a Walkman that his mother left to him. I think she left it to him. Anyway, it was like a throwback for the Olds who were there with their kids. Just like in the first Spiderman when a street performer was playing the TV theme song. I was stoked to see it period, but that song...all the Olds jumped out of their seats.

Yes, seen that film. Complete exploitation. The obvious aim was to get parents who grew up in the eighties to have something to talk about with the children they were taking to it. Ready Player One is the same.

I was around in the eighties and most of us hated the sanitized mush on the mixtape. My eighties would be Iron Maiden and Anthrax not some pop rubbish.

I dropped a beat
Someone picked it up

We dance like

Dis Go like that

I'm not as big on the Disco as I am on the Techno. Tech know me. I hire a tech. No? To stay higher.

I like The Chemical Brother's 'Go', & others, J. M., (I'll have to listen to) The Crystal Method [more], and that's funny about James Blake.

Well, world, it's time for breakfast! It's already 3 hrs past COFFEE time. First things first: RFM lol

lots of Iranian male students, lots of professional women (Where's your card?"), very fun and caring co-workers, good money, weird scene. Disco music brings that all back - like it's not even music but a super-imposing of the memory.

Professional hazard - flailing dancers. It's a maze to deliver the tray of drinks.

During this time period I became a country music fan.

Yes! Remember Yazoo? Of course you do: https://youtu.be/bs4T7kZ_Uog

ETA: Is this even disco? There's a blurry line between disco and New Wave. I was in middle school for disco, high school for new wave and hip hop. In the Navy for hip hop and grunge plus R&B like young Mariah Carey. Yo! MTv Raps and the Ed Lover dance.

EATA: When I heard "Personal Jesus," I was like, "Oh man. I am going to hell."

I wrote the following comment under my real name many years ago at a radio aircheck site in response to an aircheck of the day after the burning of disco records after a baseball game at Chicago's Cominsky Park in 1979.

"I was somewhere between being a sophmore and a junior at a college prep Catholic high school for boys where there was only one African-american in my entire class when the lid blew off disco. At the time, I was going along with everyone else in my class in not liking the music (at least verbally) while, at the same time, enjoying records like Sister Sledge's "We Are Family,", Patrick Hernandez's "Born to Be Alive," and John Stewart's "Midnight Wind,"--all of which were disco or had a disco beat. I thought that people who listened to disco were dummies, and I didn't want to be that.

In the summer of 1979, I participated in a program in which blind and partially sighted teenagers were taught living skills (cooking, cleaning, etc.). One night in that program, we went to a disco. I soon learned that one of the young ladies involved in the program--a partially sighted Latino woman named Veera--liked the music and wasn't ashamed to say she liked it. I danced with her a couple of times, and while it never went beyond that, it was one of the things that finally started me taking the wool off of my eyes about disco music and its supporters."

been on my mind lately. My sister was a disco queen.

I personally love the Bee Gees and Donna Summer isn't so bad either. I do listen to ABBA but I didn't until I met my "husband" and he loves ABBA. I sent him and my kids to see the play in SLC when it came through. Can't remember the name of the play now.

The 1970s were some of the best years of my life. Loved my job and the people I worked with. So I love hearing the old disco stuff. Great memories, although I DO NOT dance and never went to a disco.
