I'm a non-member, and I'm writing something and want to get the fact right.
Say member A and Member B used to go to the same ward, and are considered acquaintances. Then Member A moved to a different ward, but want to visit Member B for some reason. But Member A doesn't know where B lives.

My question is, can Member A obtain the residential address of member B by looking up B's church record? Is it public information? Or can one find out people's address from the same ward without actively asking?

Thanks in advance.
The background of this question is that: there are lots of those MLM people go selling to people from the church, or past acacquaintances that they don't really know even if they have moved on to different wards. I want to know how they found out about where they live.

From what I've read posted by the occasional ward clerk Exmo, the general membership can only see their own records. Each member who signs in has a screen name and a password. So you're as safe as your online practices.

A ward clerk can access the ’public’ portion of the membership records of ward members. There is a ’sealed portion’ of some membership records that can only be accessed by the ward bishop, and I suppose by higher authorities. This would be like when I had sex before my mission, but she wasn't Mormon so no big deal... And she was showing her porn shoulders, so, yeah...

I would dearly love to see my ’sealed portion’!!

Short answer is no, they are not public. I assume there are still ward directories that have names and addresses of current ward members. As for getting the address of someone who moved, if you knew the ward clerk, and the clerk knew where the member moved, he might tell you. Getting a list of past members and their new addresses, I really doubt a ward clerk would be either able or willing to give that to a person.

There are other, simpler ways to get new addresses or email addresses or phone numbers of people, via various internet apps.
