Here's a you tube link to video overview of the event to which I am referring... https://youtu.be/rTterT1sRBM

And here's a link to a short SLTrib article:
https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2020/07/29/years-later-salt-lake/

This time capsule escapade was a bust, because "humans”

But read this Russell Milhaus Nelson quote, “We did not expect to find much because we knew that the contents of the capstone had not been insulated from the weather during the 128 years that had elapsed,” the 95-year-old Nelson said. “But we wanted to be there anyway, just to be close and to pay tribute to the leaders and courageous pioneer craftsmen who against all odds built this magnificent temple.”

And here I thought that ghawd was on mormonism's side; he could have preserved the contents, right?

Loved that comment:

"By chance did it contain the bones of a rare white salamander?"

So they passed up a prime opportunity to pull brass plates undimmed or corroded by time from the cement globe at Moroni's feet?

Conclusion: Mother Nature is more powerful than Father in Heaven.

And all this time I've heard that Mormons knew all about canning since forever. Nobody thought to put papers, photos, and books in "tight as a dish" jars or sealed metal boxes? Geesh.... Too much inbreeding in Utah back then.

Or maybe they thought of it more as an offering to God that was supposed to decay because all those polygamist were afraid of prying gentile eyes.

They knew very well how to protect something from the elements in the 1890s and the architects would have known that anything perishable in there like paper would need protection against the elements, something like an inner metal sphere maybe, and then in that a bag of well-oiled leather or whatever to contain perishable items, so it's just negligence on the planner's part

+anonyXmo:
If you want o preserve paper, you could always melt some candle wax and dip the paper in it.

128 years is hardly any time at all in real terms. Nelson himself has lived for more than 90 of those years.

Boy, that was exciting stuff! I had forgotten about this happening. Glad you posted it so I could see how ridiculous it all was. Not like I thought it would be exciting.

There goes the leveling of numbers in Utah. Logan is now on mandatory masks. I wonder if Hyrum is???

Time capsule at Morini's feet?

Toe jam? Corns? Bunions? Ingrown toenail? Nephites foot?
