Where cynicism becomes toxic is when it causes you to not take action when action is what is needed, say, in order to protect a child from being raped. That happened over and over again in my experience, when people were cynical about a child's admission they had been abused. It was minimized. When that didn't work to silence kids they were threatened with being shunned by their own parents, who were almost always MORmON in my experience.

Toxic positivity is like when somebody in leadershio acts like they Made America Great Again, while 200k people just died in a country with 4% of the worlds population and 25% of the world's Covid deaths.

Those are examples but criteria.

But based on your examples you could have just simplified it to "act to reduce harm". The labels supplied just muddy the issue it seems.

I should have said, to stomach counting.
I got sick to my stomach after 10 and quit counting.
Im still friends with many of those victims of MORmON rapists.
Most of them took part in a major lawsuit against the church and prevailed, thanks in part to my deposition, which I gave while I was a Mormon.
I know of many other cases of victims of Mormon rapists, that were never punished because other Mormons stood in the way and protected rapists.
One happened in my own extended family(sisters adult Mormon Son, raped her adopted pre-teen daughter and got away with it. Zero punishment. Nothing. Nada.
Created a rift in our family that's still torn so wide open my TBM Sis moved to another continent because she can't stand the rest of us heather ExMo's who couldn't give a shit about her stupid abusive cult, but we do care about how to stop it from enabling child rape and other forms of crimes against children.
