A friend travels around the country, taking note of unusual things, like roadside attractions. He wrote this about Robinson Scenic Gardens in Mancelona, Michigan:

"A strange grouping of fiberglass animals, cartoon characters, and storybook figures serve to attract travelers to this concrete statuary business. The original owners of the business also made a garden with Biblical scenes which is now closed due to deterioration."

(The original owners had named the place Good Shepherd Scenic Gardens.)

I suppose the public showed which it preferred. Maybe the Good Shepherd section had too much Catholic-style bleeding, suffering Jesus that scared the little kids.

I am very fond of Gilgal gardens.

I always go there whenever I visit SLC.

The smell of bread baking is part of the experience.

Someone has been keeping things up, but I don't know who.

Maybe SLC parks. It is definitely not the LDS church, although I think Gilgal gardens is something they should be proud of.

Where else can you find a sphinx with the head of JS on it?

Thee are alwas beautiful flowers blooming. It is a little known attraction, when you are in the mood for quiet and meditatiion.

Praise to the man whose body's a lion?

well, it's more of a bunch of rocks -- kind of an abstract lion.

I dunno if JS's body was a lion, but his tongue DEFINITELY was a lyin'. Like all the time.

Anyway, I really like gilgal. Definitely the work or a man with a unique interpretation of Mormonism. Way cool stone grasshopper. Used to go there to get stoned. Getting stoned seemed to be the appropriate thing to do there.

Oh, the detached head on the hillside is that of the Mormon bishop who built the whole thing. I mean a replica of his head.

I think there is a Bible story behind the whole thing, but I don't know what it is.
