I don't think Joseph had wealth. His multiple bankruptcies and the constant expulsions limited that.

The sex thing was almost always underground, hidden. I think he had an element of fear. Fear of losing followers and fear of reprisals.

Brigham on the other hand reaped wealth and women. Openly. Using his position and power to its fullest.
