According to the abusive Doomsday CULT that forces MORmONs to sing the praises of an immoral sexual predator/adulterer,
"Adultery, promiscuity, elective abortion, and out-of-wedlock births are but some of the bitter fruits that grow out of the immorality sanctioned by the sexual revolution"
----D. Todd Christofferson October 2020 LDS General Conference

I love it when people do silly things, like...

1) believe in immortality and that there are standards to be upheld to achieve it, and,

2) believe in immorality and that there are standards to NOT uphold to achieve it.

Apparently, you can't be both! Ya gotta pick one!

Which path have you elected to travel?

Is it possible to follow neither path? Can you do a Fleetwood Mac and Go Your Own Way?     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNM6IuA87eM

The point isn't that there's no such thing as morality. I think there is. The point is that MORmONS only care about morality of "others" not the people whose praises they sing. That's the problem with CULTs, they make people blind to the sex crimes of their leaders, and those in power over less powerful victims, which is how sexual abuse is almost always a key component of CULTs.

EOD, you have excelled yourself, this is brilliant:

"I love it when people do silly things, like...

2) believe in immorality and that there are standards to NOT uphold to achieve it."

I shall steal it (but credit it to you ;-)

Good catch, Kori. Christofferson needs to learn that grammar is harsh mistress.

Grammar is a harsh mistress who will give birth to bitter fruit if you are not careful.

But that's what you get for choosing your grammar for your mistress.

I don't think Christofferson seriously wanted to call kids "bitter fruit," but the way he structured his sentence that is what he said. The oversight reflects, I think, an appalling sloppiness and a terrible job by his editors. The whole point of having the PR department vet the speeches is to avoid such mistakes.

I was friends in high school with two sisters whose parents did not see the necessity of wedlock. They were brilliant and graduated in the top 5% of the class.
My what a bitter fruit!!!!!!

What to do with such bitter fruits:

"You're such a bitter widdle fruit aren't you. Such a bitter fruit. With bitter widdle ears, and bitter widdle eyes and such bitter widdle toes. Oh, I could kiss your bitter widdle toes forever. Yes, I could!"

Notice that he didn't say "children conceived out of wedlock," perhaps to avoid addressing those RMs who had miraculous full term size babies after being temple married only seven months.

Not having wedlock messes up their temple work bureaucracy. How are they going to keep all those temples busy without marriage licenses to justify spending two hours of mindless mumbling to pronounce dead people "sealed for all eternity"?

We all know how anal the Mormon Politburo is about paperwork. It's why they need a small herd of clerks just to run a single ward. Mormonism is the DMV (dept of motor vehicles) of religions. Paperwork rules all.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/12/12/u-s-children-more-likely-than-children-in-other-countries-to-live-with-just-one-parent/

Almost a quarter of U.S. children under the age of 18 live with one parent and no other adults (23%), more than three times the share of children around the world who do so (7%). The study, which analyzed how people’s living arrangements differ by religion, also found that U.S. children from Christian and religiously unaffiliated families are about equally likely to live in this type of arrangement.

In comparison, 3% of children in China, 4% of children in Nigeria and 5% of children in India live in single-parent households. In neighboring Canada, the share is 15%.

In parthenogenic households, 99.435% of children live with their parent.

It's true!!

Dang it! The correct word is parthenogenetic!!

the class is about Etology - which I had to look up 3x - the biologic precursor to human behavior- or something like that. Super interesting! Schizophrenia and Sex being my favorites so far.

He says between 10% to 40% of children in the U.S. do not have the correct father on their birth certificate.

That is why they like to study the Amish.

The point is, a lot of children born in wedlock...

It's so old school to tell people don't do something because it will make God unhappy. How about explaining why, according to research, children have better outcomes when A, B, and/or C are in place? How about telling parents how to feed their children properly, discipline them, read to them, teach them colors, numbers, letters and how to pay for things and count change?

Has anyone ever really improved their behavior by being constantly berated? Why don't church leaders spend more time encouraging positive behaviors with scientifically proven outcomes?

I'm afraid that the truth has little to do with assisting anybody and a lot to do with the emotional purity of saying "I told you so! Now that you've made your own bed, go lie in it."

The LDS church used to earn millions from these tiny "bitter fruits." If a girl or women became pregnant in a pre-marital relationship, she was threatened with church discipline (disfellowshipping or excommunication) if she did not give up her baby to LDS Social Services, which, for approximately $40,000, would place the child in an LDS family. They finally gave up this practice in 2014 because of all the bad press about "child trafficking." But now they just refer the woman to one of their private adoption agencies, and possibly still profit from it.

I can't find the supporting evidence for this. If you can refer me to links I would greatly appreciate it. I have a dear cousin and friend who were terribly mistreated by LDS Social Services -they felt like this was trafficking too. I would love to help share this information

JThe following link takes you to story prompted by LDS Services getting out of the adoption business, and it covers the negatives the agency was accused of.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/why-is-the-mormon-church-getting-out-of-the-adoption-business

It states that LDS Services charged like a 10th of the going rate, but that sure doesn't sound like the Mormon church I know!

>It states that LDS Services charged like a 10th of the going rate, but that sure doesn't sound like the Mormon church I know!

They're not as altruistic as it sounds.

From this story

https://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?id=58079119&itype=CMSID

"According to the agency's website, only LDS couples who are sealed in a Mormon temple, have temple recommends and are infertile qualify to adopt through Family Services. Expectant mothers of any background, however, are served."

Didn't the sexual revolution happen 50 years ago?

Wedlock: having permission from the church and state to have sex and procreate.

Oops you had a kid without our permission! Bad on you. Everyone goes into the lake of brimstone.

I like this comparison.

Would you jump out of an airplane if you had a greater than 50 percent chance your parachute would fail? So why enter into wedlock if you have a similar chance it will fail?

Lots of kids born in wedlock still only live with one parent.

What does the church do to HELP these kids? Nothing? No help with self worth or education or finances or anything to help them succeeded.

Remember. The 100 billion plus dollars are for jesus not his fleeced flock.

If you're bad you'll have babies! Kids mess up your life!

No wonder I never had any kids.

Mormon women will be mothers and Mormon men polygamists in the Mormon afterlife. It is all balanced by the proclamation on their families. So if you happen to not find an Adman for your Evening just take comfort in lots of afterlife balancing.

Take a look at this!

"Adultery, promiscuity, out-of-wedlock births,15 and elective abortions are but some of the bitter fruits that grow out of the ongoing sexual revolution."

By clicking on 15

this pops up from a sidebar

In giving this example, I am speaking of potential adverse consequences to children as “bitter fruit” and not of the children themselves. Every child of God is precious, and every life has priceless value regardless of the circumstances of birth.

You better believe that the church has PR folks skimming social media looking for criticism of their enamored speeches.

B.S. what about this?

"God visits iniquities of fathers upon children unto third and fourth generations, Mosiah 13:13 (Deut. 5:9)."
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/triple-index/generation?lang=eng

We all know that Mormon "bitter fruits" are from iniquities and are generational.
