https://news.yahoo.com/20-free-roaming-pythons-long-185339806.html

Some as long as 10 Feet!

I wonder if the guy lived in the house with these snakes?

I wonder if he was Mormon.

"In addition, Unified police officers reported finding approximately 500 rats and 50 to 60 rabbits."

Well, at least he was keeping them well fed. :)

and so ... ?

If not illegal ('Big Brother'), if they came to the U.S. legally, why not?

Sometimes laws are even too much for me, a 'true liberal'

So you are against government regulation of exotic animals ? Maybe you need to visit the wild pythons of Florida.

I feel some sloganeering coming on:

Kein Python ist illegal.
No python is illegal.

No borders, no nations, keep the python importations.

America needs ecological diversity.

No wonder the guy felt free to have all sorts of illegal substances in his home! Would YOU voluntarily go into a house where there are 20 pythons?? Not me! I think that undercover cop who made the bust should get extra hazardous duty pay.

Not to mention the animal control people who will have to deal with those snakes. UGH!!

My cats are strictly indoors. They don't pick up fleas, ticks, or any other unsavory critters. And they are in no danger of being swooped up by large hawks, which occasionally attack, kill and carry off cats and/or small dogs in our area. My precious furbabies are as safe as I can keep them.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here...

If adequate provisions for care & keeping of these animals / pets is provided... and they're not dangerous / a menace to others, ...

What's the problem here?

'liberal' or conservative perspective, You get to Decide!!!

This. These animals can devastate ecosystems. Look at Florida. And look at the cane toad thing in Australia.

I saw that earlier.

Can you imagine walking up hill backwards for six minutes? Amazing.

And I looked it up on a map. It looks like it's barely outside of Provo, UT, which is a big city, isn't it?

Provo has a little over 100,000 population. The
Provo-Orem metro area has around 600,000.

Yikes! I would not want to come across that either. Always avoid the babies!

There’s a forest nearby where I like to hike and bike. Occasionally cross paths with some snakes. Frequently see deer, and you want to avoid their babies too.

Susan I/S.... The kitty that is being reported as stalking the guy was doing nothing more than trying to lead him away from her little cubs.... The guy even appears to have provoked the mother some, to get a response. First rule of hiking, if you see babies, retreat.

It was the other way around. She was pushing him away from her cubs. He was not taunting her to get a response. Read the article.

Officials with Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources had nothing but praise for him.

You did great,” Scott Root, DWR’s conservation outreach manager for central Utah, told Burgess on Monday, where they met at the Slate Canyon trailhead. “You did awesome.”

Root said Burgess did almost everything right. “He backed away. He didn’t go toward the mountain lion or her kittens. He made a lot of noise. ... He stayed large, he stayed loud and he backed away from the area for quite a while. I think he did everything really well.”

“You want to remain large and you want to remain making a lot of noise. And that’s what he did.”

People are strange and have hobbies that get a bit carried away. Maybe he made good money from selling the snakes.

Re: 20 free-roaming pythons seized at Utah home new

How about a mountain lion? Here Kitty Kitty...
-------

First, what a jerk!!, and I'm glad the pythons were seized.

My daughter lives in a hilly area which is heavily saturated with mortals. She has learned from past experience to keep her dog in the house, or in the back-yard when it is well lighted by the sun, because many mountain lions live in those people-populated hills. They (the m.ls.), even freely walk down the middle of a busy street above her house, just like they own the joint, and grab pets for their dinner if they get a chance.

Even so, the laws don't allow people to harm these wild, dangerous critters--not even with a bee-bee gun (to try and scare them away).

I like to take walks on my block (down the hill from her) where I don't need to worry about being attached by wild animals. :)

They should be set free in the temple. It would make a more livelier session. Some people might stay awake.
